OHIO WESLEYAN’S MOTT, WOOSTER’S WERNER HEAD
NORTH COAST’S 20TH ANNIVERSARY BASEBALL TEAM

CLEVELAND -- Ohio Wesleyan senior Tyler Mott (Grove City, OH/Grove City) and Wooster’s John Werner head an impressive list of stellar athletes named to the North Coast Athletic Conference’s 20th Anniversary baseball team. Mott and Werner together earned seven first-team All-NCAC honors.

Mott, the only member of the second decade team still competing, was an All-NCAC first-team selection the past three seasons, earning Pitcher of the Year honors as a junior in 2003. He is joined by eight former Bishop standouts named to the 17-man team. In fact, the entire infield is made up of former OWU stars. Catcher Jason Bogenrife, first baseman Drew Caravella, second baseman Steve Goodhart, third baseman Ryan Missler and shortstop Dan Marchetti were all selected to the Second Decade team. They earned a combined 14 first-team all-conference nods, three Player of the Year selections and one Newcomer of the Year honor. Outfielder Joe Loudenslager, NCAC Newcomer of the Year in 2000, three-time first-team selection Shaun Rice and pitcher Brad Roser, conference Pitcher of the Year in 1994, round out Ohio Wesleyan alums named to the team.

Werner, a four-time first-team selection, leads a quartet of former Wooster stars voted onto the squad. Outfielders Jared Treadway and Trevor Urban and pitcher Matt Englander join him. Treadway was a four-time all-conference choice. Urban was a three-time first-team honoree and NCAC Player of the Year in 1999. Englander was a three-time first-team All-NCAC choice and a two-time Pitcher of the Year.

Allegheny designated hitter Joe Musgrove, a two-time first-team choice, and pitcher Jeff Mountain, a two-time NCAC Pitcher of the Year, represent the Gators. Rounding out the squad is Wittenberg outfielder Bryan Magoteaux, a three-time first-team choice, and Denison utility player Derek Johnson, the conference’s Player of the Year in 2001.

Ohio Wesleyan and Wooster have each won eight North Coast titles in the past 19 seasons. Allegheny is the only other school to have won an NCAC baseball title and they have done so four times, last in 1999. The Gators and the Scots shared the first-ever NCAC crown in 1985.

The North Coast Athletic Conference will be announcing 20th Anniversary teams in all 22 sports during the 2003-04 academic year. The NCAC was founded in 1983 and began competition in the fall of 1984. The North Coast’s commitment to equity, its broad base of athletic programs and an unwavering insistence on excellence in academics has served as a model for conferences throughout the country.

The NCAC’s 20th Anniversary teams were selected in each sport through balloting by present and former coaches and administrators. Athletes who participated in conference competition between the fall of 1993 through the spring of 2003 were eligible for selection.
