North Coast Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week
Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week – Jalen Kirksey, Hiram
Jalen Kirksey (Massillon, Ohio/Washington) lifted Hiram Men’s Basketball to an 81-80 victory over Denison with a game-winner as time expired on Wednesday. Kirksey tallied 15 points in the game to go along with four rebounds, two assists and one steal. On Saturday, the sophomore tied a career-high with 22 points in an 86-84 victory over Ohio Wesleyan. He also registered five rebounds, five steals and three assists, in the two-point win.
Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week – Sydney Kopp, DePauw
DePauw’s Sydney Kopp (Burr Ridge, Ill./Hinsdale South) unloaded for 24 points in a 61-52 win over Wittenberg last week. The junior also recorded four rebounds, three assists and two steals. She followed that up with a 14-point, five-rebound performance against Oberlin in a 66-37 victory on Saturday. DePauw went 2-0 on the week and improved to 6-2 overall, 3-0 in NCAC play.
Men’s Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week – Logan Indest, Allegheny
Allegheny sophomore Logan Indest (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) captured two victories at the Fredonia Blue Devil Invite, including a pool record in the 200 butterfly, touching the wall in 1:53.40. He also tapped first in the 400 IM with a time of 4:06.27.
Women’s Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week – McClaren Rodriguez, Allegheny
Allegheny junior McClaren Rodriguez (Mason City, Iowa/Mason City) tallied two individual victories in the 100 & 200 freestyle events while also aiding in three relay victories at the Fredonia Blue Devil Invite. Rodriguez helped set a school record and pool record in the 200 free relay as Allegheny took the event with a time of 1:36.47. The Gators also set a pool record in the 400 free relay, touching in 3:34.69.
Men's Indoor Track, Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Week – Adriano Atallah, Oberlin
Oberlin’s Adriano Atallah (New Rochelle, N.Y./Regis) led the three Yeomen sprinters at the Division II University of Findlay Oiler Opener on Saturday. The sophomore won the 300-meter dash with a time of 36.91. Atallah’s performance was just 85 hundredths of second off the Oberlin school record, set by Shawn Chrapczynski back in 2011.
Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week – Chauncey Simmons, Oberlin
Oberlin’s Chauncey Simmons (Philadelphia, Pa./Haverford School) highlighted the Yeomen throwers at the highly competitive Oiler Open on Saturday with a personal-best performance in the weight. In his second meet of his senior campaign, he earned a heave of 14.40m (47-03.003), which currently ranks third in the conference. Simmons followed that performance with a toss of 12.54m (41-01.75) in the shot put which is the eighth best throw in the conference this season.
Women's Indoor Track, Distance/Middle Distance Athlete of the Week – Sophia Cunningham, Oberlin
Sophia Cunningham (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) earned a first-place finish at the Division II University of Findlay Oiler Opener on Saturday for Oberlin. The first-year runner beat the three-person field in the 800-meter run with a 2:27.26 finish, which is the second-best time in the NCAC this season. The freshman also was the lead in the 4x400-meter relay that recorded the third best time in the conference (4:28.45).
Women's Indoor Track, Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Week – Olivia Smith, Oberlin
Olivia Smith (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) highlighted the day at the Oiler Opener for the Yeowomen sprinters with two strong performances. The first-year track athlete placed seventh in the 400-meter dash (1:04.17) and was the second leg in the 4x400-meter relay that took third (4:28.45). Her 400-meter time is the second-best showing in the event in the NCAC, and the 4x400-meter team recorded a season-best finish for the crimson and gold.
Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week – Jasmine Keegan, Oberlin
Jasmine Keegan (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) recorded a career-best mark in the weight throw to lead the Oberlin throwers at Division II University Findlay on Saturday. The junior native threw the weight 15.73m (51-07.25) to place eighth, which is the best performance in the conference this year. Nationally, the mark ranks 13th amongst all of Division III. Keegan also earned a ninth-place finish in the shot put with a heave of 11.58m (38-00), which is third in the NCAC.
NCAC Milestones & Records (Dec. 3 - Dec. 9)
Allegheny, Swimming & Diving- Allegheny men’s swimmer Logan Indest (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) set a pool record in the 200 butterfly (1:53.40) at the Fredonia Blue Devil Invite. On the women’s side, the Gators set a school and pool record in the 200 free relay, touching in 1:36.47. They also set a pool record in the 400 free relay, collecting a time of 3:34.69.
DePauw, Women’s Basketball - Senior Maya Howard (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) moved into seventh place in DePauw history with 1,200 career points.
