OBERLIN, Ohio – Oberlin College senior center Olivia Canning was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week, the website announced on Tuesday morning.
Canning, who was one of five players from across the nation to earn the award, has played a key role in helping the Yeowomen get off to a 2-1 start on the season. Already earning NCAC Player of the Week and JCU Tip-off Classic All-Tournament team laurels, Canning is averaging a double-double with 14 points and 10.7 rebounds per game thus far.
The Sudbury, Massachusetts, native is shooting a NCAC-best 70 percent (14-of-20) from the floor whiling ranking second in the league in rebounding. She started the season with a 17-point, 10-rebound effort in a 59-45 win over Alma and helped the Yeowomen to a 59-53 comeback win at John Carroll with 17 points and 14 boards, notching career double-double 16 and 17 in the process.
Canning, who is shooting at a 73.7 percent at the free throw line (14-of-19), also has eight blocked shots and a team-high six steals.
She and the rest of her Yeowomen teammates are back in action tonight at home as they welcome No. 9 Trine to Philips Gym for a 7:30 p.m. battle. The Thunder come in at 2-1, most recently dropping a 68-66 decision at home against DePauw.
