POWELL, Ohio – The DePauw Men’s Cross Country team won the 2018 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championship on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Liberty Park in Powell, Ohio. DePauw’s Paul Christian (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) won the event with a time of 25:32.3.
DePauw won its second NCAC Championship in as many seasons with a team score of 37 points. Allegheny finished runner-up with 80 points, while Wooster claimed third, posting 99 points. Wabash was slotted fourth (104) and Oberlin rounded out the top-five with 142 points. Denison (150), Ohio Wesleyan (163), Kenyon (164) and Wittenberg (233) completed the nine-team field.
DePauw finished with three runners in the top-five, including Zach Batt (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) in third (25:48.9) and Cole Martin (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) in fifth (26:04.4) to accompany Christian. Allegheny’s Matt Svetz (Medville, Pa./Meadville) (second) and Wooster’s David Westcott (Millbrook, N.Y./Millbrook) (fourth) also placed in the top five. Oberlin’s Grant Sheely (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./Dobbs Ferry) and Ohio Weselyan’s Daniel Frame (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, nabbing All-NCAC first team honors with their finishes.
With Christian’s first-place finish he earned the NCAC’s Runner of the Year award. Freshman teammate Zane Williams (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) was tabbed the NCAC’s Newcomer of the Year, going to the highest placing (11th) first-time runner at the championships. Lastly, Tigers head coach, Kori Stoffregen, took home his second-consecutive Coach of Year honor.
