CLEVELAND -- Wooster junior first baseman Sean Karpen (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) and senior righthander Adam Samson (Orrville, OH/Orrville) have been named Player and Pitcher of the Year to highlight the 2008 All-North Coast Athletic Conference baseball selections.

Karpen is making his debut on the all-league team as a member of the first team. This season he hit .433 (68-157) with seven home runs, 12 doubles, 45 runs batted in and 47 runs scored.

Samson earns Pitcher of the Year honors for the second straight year. He dominated hitters with a 7-1 record and a 3.13 earned-run average. He struck out 63 batters in 60.1 innings pitched. Samson makes his third consecutive appearance on the first team.

In addition to Samson, Wittenberg senior Matt Steinke (Wapakoneta, OH/St. Mary's Memorial), Fighting Scot senior Pat Christensen (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) and Ohio Wesleyan senior Joey McDaniel (Dublin, OH/Scioto) make repeat appearances on the first team. Moving up after earning second-team honors in 2007 are Wooster sophomore Mark Miller (Convoy, OH/Crestview) and Scot senior Jake Sankal (Mentor, OH/Mentor). Wooster senior Dan Skulina (Strongsville, OH/Walsh Jesuit) earns his first first-team nod after being selected honorable mention last spring.

Kenyon junior Tom Boucher (Cutchogue, NY/Mattituck) was named Newcomer of the Year after posting a conference best eight wins with an 8-2 record with a 3.64 earned-run average from the mound.

Ohio Wesleyan's interim head coach Tyler Mott earned Coach of the Year honors for the first time after leading the Battling Bishops to a 28-17 record, the North Coast Conference title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament in his first season at the helm.
