__________________________________________________________________________ May 6, 2002 TREADWAY AND MOTT NAMED NCAC BASEBALL PLAYER AND PITCHER OF THE WEEK PLAYER OF THE WEEK Wooster senior outfielder Jared Treadway (Bay Village, OH/Bay) went 9-for-18 (.500) in the leadoff spot, helping Wooster to a 4-0 week. He totalled two or more hits in every game, including three doubles, scored five runs, drove in six others and stole six bases. In the first round of the NCAC tournament, Treadway batted 5-for-10 (.500) with two doubles, two runs, three RBI and three steals. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Ohio Wesleyan righthander Tyler Mott (Grove City, OH/Grove City) threw a complete-game five-hitter in the deciding game of the Bishops' NCAC first round series against Allegheny. He did not allow a hit after the fourth inning. Mott struck out eight Gator batters and walked two, allowing only one earned run in the game. The win advanced Ohio Wesleyan into the championship round of the league tournament. __________________________________________________________________________ April 29, 2002 BORN AND STROZEWSKI NAMED NCAC BASEBALL PLAYER AND PITCHER OF THE WEEK PLAYER OF THE WEEK Wittenberg senior shortstop Bryan Burke (Brunswick, OH/Brunswick) hit safely in all six of the Tigers' games last week. He scored at least one run and recorded at least one RBI in each contest. For the week, Burke was 17-for-27 (.630) with four homers and two doubles. He totalled 12 runs, 13 runs batted in and was walked only once. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Wooster senior Josh Frank (Wooster, OH/Northwestern) pitched the first three innings against Ohio State and tossed eight scoreless innings in the third and deciding game of the Wooster-Allegheny series last week. For the week, he allowed three runs (two earned) on nine hits and five walks, while striking out 11 in 11 innings of work. Frank is 5-0 with the lowest ERA (1.83) among Wooster's starters. __________________________________________________________________________ April 22, 2002 CARAVELLA AND DEWITT NAMED NCAC BASEBALL PLAYER AND PITCHER OF THE WEEK PLAYER OF THE WEEK Ohio Wesleyan senior first baseman Drew Caravella (Columbus, OH/Hilliard Davidson) became the NCAC's all-time home run leader after hitting three dingers last week. He passes former teammate Jason Bogenrife for the honor. Caravella also set the OWU career record for runs scored (184), breaking the mark held by Scott Walberry. For the week, he was 15-for-24 with seven runs, 16 RBI, three homers and five doubles. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Oberlin sophomore Troy DeWitt (San Diego, CA/The Bishops School) threw a two-hit shutout against Allegheny last week. In seven innings he struck out four batters, while allowing no runs and no walks. __________________________________________________________________________ April 15, 2002 BORN AND STROZEWSKI NAMED NCAC BASEBALL PLAYER AND PITCHER OF THE WEEK PLAYER OF THE WEEK Wittenberg junior Ryan Born (Marion, OH/Pleasant) was 5-for-6 (.833) in the Tigers 14-10 win over Dayton last week. He scored four runs, tallied five RBI and two homers in the win. He is batting .391 this season with 21 RBI and has just one error at first base this season (166 putouts, six assists). PITCHER OF THE WEEK Hiram sophomore pitcher Nick Strozewski (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) led the Terriers to a 13-3 win over Washington & Jefferson last week. In six innings of work, he allowed one hit and one earned run. He walked three batters and struck out six. __________________________________________________________________________ April 8, 2002 RICE AND COWDEN NAMED NCAC BASEBALL PLAYER AND PITCHER OF THE WEEK PLAYER OF THE WEEK Ohio Wesleyan senior outfielder Shaun Rice (Dublin, OH/Columbus Watterson) went 11-for-19 (.579) to lead the Bishops to five wins last week - with four in conference play. He combined for two home runs, two doubles and seven runs batted in for the week. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Denison sophomore righthander Cam Cowden (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville) improved to 6-0 on the year with two wins last week. In 10 innings of work, he allowed seven hits, three runs (none earned) and one walk. He pitched an 8-0 shutout against Capital in the first game of a doubleheader. __________________________________________________________________________ April 1, 2002 FRANK AND ENGLANDER NAMED NCAC BASEBALL PLAYER AND PITCHER OF THE WEEK PLAYER OF THE WEEK Wooster freshman third baseman Jake Frank (Wooster, OH/Northwestern) belted three home runs to lead the Scots to a doubleheader sweep of Hiram last week. In the opener, he hit a pair of two-run blasts and also walked once in four at bats. He then went 2-for-4 with another dinger and three RBI in the second game, giving him a 4-for-7, four-run, seven-RBI day. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Wooster senior Matt Englander (Solon, OH/Solon) improved to 3-1 on the season with a win in the opener of a twinbill against Hiram. He threw the first six innings and allowed just one earned run on four hits. He struck out three batters. __________________________________________________________________________ March 25, 2002 SPITHALER AND CHONKO NAMED NCAC BASEBALL PLAYER AND PITCHER OF THE WEEK PLAYER OF THE WEEK Allegheny senior first baseman Bob Spithaler (Evans City, PA/Seneca Valley) hit 12-for-29 (.414) with 14 runs scored, three doubles, two homeruns, and 12 RBI as the Gators went 7-2 in nine games last week. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Denison sophomore lefthander Adam Chonko (Columbia Station, OH/Benedictine) pitched a perfect game against Lake Erie. He faced the minimum 15 batters, registering six strikeouts and allowing only two balls hit in the air. Chonko also threw 2/3 inning of scoreless relief in a 5-4, nine inning loss to Baldwin-Wallace. __________________________________________________________________________
