__________________________________________________________________________ May 3, 2004 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Wooster senior Matt Miller (Millersburg, OH/Hiland) tied Rick Sforzo's long-standing school record for career hits (263:1984-87), while going 11-for-23 (.476) and leading the Scots to a 6-0 week. Four of Miller's hits went for extra bases - two doubles and two homers - as he also totalled eight runs, eight RBI, three walks and five stolen bases. His biggest hit was a grand slam to the opposite field (right) which gave Wooster a 7-4 led in game two of the NCAC tourney semifinal series against Ohio Wesleyan. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Denison senior pitcher Cam Cowden (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville) improved to 10-0 on the season with a 9-0 shutout victory over Allegheny. Cowden becomes the first pitcher in Denison history to win 10 games in a single season. He also extended his streak of scoreless innings pitched to 16, dating back to April 17th against Wittenberg. Against the Gators, he allowed six hits in seven innings of work, while striking out a career- high 12 batters. __________________________________________________________________________ April 26, 2004 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Wabash sophomore Chris Sides (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) went 10-for-24 for the week from the plate, pounding out three home runs and seven RBI. He hit .417, had an .833 slugging percentage, and added two walks to his totals for an on-base percentage of .462. He went 7-for-10 against Earlham on Sunday with two home runs, a double, and four RBIs in the first game. He finished game two with four hits in six at bats, scoring three runs and picking up three more RBIs. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Hiram junior Jeremy Krol (Leavittsburg, OH/LaBrae) went the distance against Washington & Jefferson. He scattered six hits and allowed just two runs over nine innings in the 7-2 win. He struck out nine and did not walk a batter. __________________________________________________________________________ April 19, 2004 PLAYER OF THE WEEK After going 0-for-5 against Ohio Dominican to start the week, Wooster freshman leadoff hitter and left fielder Mike Barone (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) combined to go 10-for-16 (.625) with 11 runs scored, three doubles, four home runs, and 12 RBI during the next five games. The freshman entered the week with one homer on the season, but exploded for three dingers and seven RBI during the Kenyon series. He helped lead the Scots to a 6-0 week. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Ohio Wesleyan senior right-hander Shaun Burchett (Plain City, OH/Jonathan Alder) was the winning pitcher in three games as the Battling Bishops swept Earlham. He was the winning pitcher in both games one and two of the series. In the opener, a 4-2 win, Burchett came into a tie game in the sixth inning and got the Bishops out of a jam, then picked up the win when Ohio Wesleyan scored twice in the bottom of the inning. He came into the nightcap in the sixth inning with Ohio Wesleyan trailing, 2-1, and got the win when the Bishops scored twice in the bottom of the inning. He pitched 2.0 innings of hitless relief. Burchett is the first Ohio Wesleyan pitcher to win both games of a doubleheader since Tyler Mott turned the trick last April against Wittenberg. The two relief appearances also make him Ohio Wesleyan's all-time leader in that category with 50. Burchett started game four against Earlham and spun a four-hit shutout. He struck out six, walked none and allowed four singles in the game. On the week, Burchett compiled a record of 3-0 and an earned run average of 0.00. He pitched 10.1 innings, allowing five hits, and struck out eight while walking none. __________________________________________________________________________ April 12, 2004 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Wooster senior shortstop Luke Ullman (Chagrin Falls,OH/Kenston) combined to go 13-for-26 (.500) with eight runs scored, four doubles, two homers, and 12 RBI last week. Three of his doubles came in the Otterbein game, tying a single-game school record. He led off the bottom of the ninth against Muskingum with a walk-off home run. Ullman, who also walked once, was hit by a pitch, and stole five bases during the six-game stretch, added a three-run homer in game two of the Oberlin series and went 4-for-5 (.800) with three RBI in game three. Defensively, Ullman did not make an error in 20 chances to up his fielding percentage to .929. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Allegheny sophomore lefty Drew Scibetta (Glenshaw, PA/Shaler) accomplished a rare feat, collecting wins in both ends of the doubleheader against Hiram. He allowed two hits and struck out six in a seven-inning complete game effort in game one and then started the second game, allowing two hits in four innings of work. Scibetta improved his record to 4-0 on the season. __________________________________________________________________________ April 5, 2004 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Ohio Wesleyan sophomore Brandon Williams (Dublin, OH/Coffman) took over the leadoff spot in the Bishops' batting order in three of five games last week. From the leadoff spot, he went 8-for-13 with eight runs, four RBI and three stolen bases. For the week, he was 11-for-21 with 10 runs, eight RBI and was 4-4 on stolen base attempts as the Bishops went 3-1 in NCAC play and 4-1 overall. PITCHER OF THE WEEK In game three of the four-game series against Earlham, junior southpaw Drew Shamrock (Cincinnati, OH/Mason) pitched six innings of shutout ball while striking out 11 of the 22 batters he faced, helping Denison to a 1-0 win. He allowed three hits and walked one batter. His five wins on the season tie him with three other league pitchers, including senior teammate Cam Cowden (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville). He is second in the NCAC with 48 strikeouts. __________________________________________________________________________ March 29, 2004 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Wittenberg senior Tom Fox (Urbana, OH/Urbana) carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the eighth inning in game three of the Wabash series last week. He allowed a one-out single, striking out 10 of the 29 batters he faced and walking five. Wittenberg won 2-0. Fox is 2-1 this season in five appearances. He's third on the team with 12.2 innings pitched and has a .071 earned run average. PITCHER OF THE WEEK In six games last week, Allegheny junior outfielder Domenic Lanzilatti (Strongsville, OH/Normandy) hit .632 with nine runs batted in. He collected 12 hits in 19 at-bats including two triples and three doubles for a 1.000 slugging percentage. In Sunday's doubleheader against Kenyon, Lanzilatti went 5-7 with two doubles, a triple, and three RBI. He was 4-4 in game one and 1-3 in game two. On the season, he leads the Gators with a .532 average and 19 RBI. __________________________________________________________________________ March 22, 2004 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Denison junior left fielder Drew Shamrock (Cincinnati, OH/Mason) led the Big Red to a 5-1 record last week. He hit .650 (13-for-20) over the six games with 17 runs batted in, five doubles, two home runs and 1 stolen base. In the second game of a doubleheader against Plattsburgh State, Shamrock was 4-for-4 with two home runs, six RBI and three runs scored. He leads Denison with a .538 batting average and 24 RBI through 11 games. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Kenyon senior Chris Lynn (Mt. Pleasant, PA/Mt. Pleasant Area) went 2-0 last week. He went the distance in both contests, allowing three hits and one run in each game. In a 3-1 win over Franklin & Marshall, Lynn walked one batter and struck out 10. In a 2-1 win over Transylvania, he walked two batters and fanned eight. __________________________________________________________________________
