__________________________________________________________________________ May 2, 2005 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Wooster junior first baseman Kurt Kapferer (Jefferson, OH/Jefferson Area) went 10-for-19 (.526) with seven runs scored and 11 RBI, while also reaching base three other times via walks as he led the Scots to a 6-0 week. Most of his damage came in two games, as he homered twice and drove in four during a 3-for-4 performance in the third game of the Hiram series and went 4-for-4 with a school-record-tying three doubles and five RBI during the second Wittenberg game. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Wooster junior right-hander Jon Oliver (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) threw back-to-back complete-game shutouts, leading Wooster to 8-0 and 4-0 victories over Hiram and Wittenberg, respectively. Overall, he gave up just six hits and two walks in 16 innings, while striking out 12, improving to 7-0, and lowering his ERA to 1.77. After allowing a leadoff single and then walking the next batter, Oliver set down 19 in a row, including seven by strikeout, as he threw a one-hitter to kick-off the Hiram series. Against Wittenberg, he put away the first 11 in order and did not allow a Tiger runner to reach second base the entire game. __________________________________________________________________________ April 25, 2005 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Oberlin senior catcher Andrew Caprariello (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) went 3-for-4 with three RBI in the Yeomen's 7-3 win over Case at Cleveland's Jacobs Field last week. He broke open a 3-3 tie in the eighth inning with a two-run single. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Allegheny junior Drew Scibetta (Glenshaw, PA/Shaler) went 1-0 last week with a save as he didn't allow an earned run in 10 innings. In the Westminster victory, he tossed three scoreless innings while allowing three hits and striking out two to preserve the 6-5 final score. In the 8-2 win over Kenyon in game two of the twinbill, Scibetta went the distance, allowing just two unearned runs on six hits while striking out four and walking just one. __________________________________________________________________________ April 18, 2005 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Wittenberg sophomore Andrew Wellman (Huntington, WV/Huntington) hit .650 (13-for-20) with 11 RBI and seven runs scored to help the Tigers to a 6-0 week. His totals included six doubles, two triples and three walks. He leads the Tigers with a .550 (22-for-40) batting average and a .640 on- base percentage. Entering the week Wellman had three RBI and zero doubles and triples to his credit. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Denison senior pitcher Drew Shamrock (Cincinnati, OH/Mason) fired his first career no-hitter in last week's series' opening, 8-0 win against Wabash. Shamrock struck out 10 batters and walked only two in his dominating performance. On Thursday against Otterbein, Shamrock pitched a scoreless ninth inning, striking out two batters to help Denison to the 10-9 win, earning his first career save in the process. He is 4-2 on the year and has struck out 49 batters in 41.0 innings pitched. __________________________________________________________________________ April 11, 2005 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Ohio Wesleyan junior third baseman Sammy Hall (North Riverside IL/ Nazareth Academy) drove in two runs during a five-run sixth inning in Game 4 of the Wabash series that helped the Bishops sweep the Little Giants. He was 7-for-16 (.438) over the four Wabash games, with a double and six RBI. He helped OWU to a 5-2 week overall, batting .400 (10-for-25) with 13 RBI. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Kenyon junior Michael Coe (Kensington, MD/Montgomery Blair) threw a complete-game four-hitter against Wooster. He allowed just two earned runs, struck out three and handed the Scots their first NCAC loss of the season. __________________________________________________________________________ April 4, 2005 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Allegheny sophomore Jason Pape (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) was offic- ially 5-for-9 with three RBI and five runs scored last week but reached base 10 times in the two games. In a 25-7 win over Point Park, he was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs batted in and four runs scored but reached base seven times on the two hits, three walks, one hit by pitch and one error. In a 10-inning PSU-Behrend game, his two-out double in the 10th knocked in the winning run in the Gators' 6-5 victory. His stat line at the end of the day was 3-for-6 at the plate with one RBI, one run scored and one stolen base. PITCHER OF THE WEEK In the first game of a doubleheader against Kenyon, Hiram senior John Prejsnar (New Castle, PA/New Castle), now 3-1 on the season, struck out five, walked two, and allowed seven hits to earn the complete game win. He leads the Terriers in innings pitched (28.1) and in strikeouts (32). __________________________________________________________________________ March 28, 2005 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Wooster preseason All-America first baseman Kurt Kapferer (Jefferson, OH/Jefferson Area) snapped out of an early-season slump, batting .593 (16-for-27) with nine runs scored and 12 RBI while leading the Scots to eight wins in as many games last week. Five of his 16 hits went for extra bases ? two doubles, one triple, and two homers ? and he walked three times and was hit by a pitch once. Kapferer?s best outing came in a 15-4 victory against No. 3 ranked St. Thomas, as he went 5-for-5 with two home runs and seven RBI. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Wabash junior starting pitcher John Thiry (Grand Rapids, MI/Grand Rapids Christian) allowed a lead-off double in the opener against Earlham. It turned out to be the only hit of the game for the Quakers. Thiry picked up the complete game shutout, and his third victory of the season, working seven innings and tying his season high for strikeouts with seven. He allowed one walk and had two hit batsmen in the contest, while lowering his ERA to 1.95. __________________________________________________________________________ March 21, 2005 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Denison senior Drew Shamrock (Cincinnati, OH/Mason) hit .542 in six games over the Big Red's spring break in Florida. He was 13-for-24 with three home runs, one triple, one double and seven runs scored. He also stole three bases. He picked up 11 of his team-leading 12 runs batted in last week. Shamrock leads the team with a .472 average on the year. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Kenyon junior Michael Coe (Kensington, MD/Montgomery Blair) threw a combined 14 innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out eight batters. He improved his record to 5-1 on the season as the Lords wrapped up their two-week Florida trip. __________________________________________________________________________
