__________________________________________________________________________ May 1, 2006 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Ohio Wesleyan junior Kyle Sherman (Plain City, OH/Dublin Scioto) slammed two homers and drove in six runs to lead the Bishops to back-to-back wins over Kenyon in the NCAC Tournament semifinals. He drove in the tying run and scored the go-ahead run in the opener, then belted a three-run homer to help OWU break the game open in the nightcap, after putting the Bishops ahead to stay with solo homer in first inning. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Wooster sophomore lefty Adam Samson (Orrville, OH/Orrville) tossed the first nine-inning complete-game shutout of his career, salvaging a split for the Scots during the first day of the NCAC Tournament semifinal series with Wittenberg. The Tigers managed eight hits off of Samson, but he was in command throughout as they were all singles, and of the 10 runners stranded, only one reached third base. Samson struck out four and walked just one. He also was the starter against NCAA Div. I Kent State, working the first 2.1 innings. __________________________________________________________________________ April 24, 2006 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Ohio Wesleyan senior third baseman Sammy Hall (North Riverside, IL/ Nazareth Academy) led the Bishops to a 3-1 week as he hit .500 (7-14) with two doubles, three homers, six runs scored and 10 RBI. He had a 1.286 slugging percentage and also walked twice and was hit by a pitch twice for a .611 on-base percentage. He smashed a two-run homer in the 20-4 loss to Wooster and then belted a first-inning grand slam and singled in what proved to be the winning run in the 10-8 victory over the Scots. He also blasted a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth against #11 Ohio Dominican (NAIA) to erase an 8-7 deficit and help OWU to a 10-9 victory. He was 2-for-4 with three RBI against ODU. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Ohio Wesleyan senior right-hander Adam Dunn (Westerville, OH/Worthington Christian) went 2-0 last week with one save in three appearances. He pitched 8.0 innings, allowing seven hits, three runs, three earned runs and striking out six while walking three. He worked the ninth inning to pick up the save against Ohio Dominican. He picked up the win against Muskingum in relief, retiring all nine batters he faced in the final three innings. He also won in relief against Wooster. __________________________________________________________________________ April 17, 2006 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Kenyon freshman Jake Calcei (Manyua, OH/Aurora) hit for the cycle in the first of three Kenyon wins against Allegheny. The third baseman was 4-for-4 in the game one win and went on to drill two more home runs in game two. For the weekend, he was 8-for-13 (.615) with a double, two triples, three homers, eight runs scored and 10 RBI. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Wooster sophomore southpaw Adam Samson (Orrville, OH/Orrville) pitched his second-straight complete game and struck out a career-high 10 during game two of the Hiram series - a 10-2 Wooster win. He held the Terriers to one earned run (two total) on three hits and four walks, while improving to 5-1 and lowering his ERA to 1.58. It was his only action of the week. __________________________________________________________________________ April 10, 2006 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Ohio Wesleyan junior second baseman Kyle Sherman (Plain City, Dublin Scioto) went 10-for-18 (.556) with a double, two triples, seven runs scored and 10 RBI in the four games against Denison. He was 8-for-11 (.727) with four runs scored and eight RBI in games three and four. In the Sunday opener, he was 4-for-6 (.667) with six RBI and two triples, which tie the OWU single-game record for triples, last accomplished by Mark Wherry against Nichols in 2001. In non-conference action, he was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a two-run homer in a loss to Heidelberg and was 2-for-5 (.400) with a double in a loss to Marietta. For the week, he was 13-for-26 (.500) with two doubles, two triples, a homer, 10 runs scored and 13 RBI. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Allegheny senior Drew Scibetta (Glenshaw, PA/Shaler Area) who had 13 strikeoouts in seven innings of work to lead the Gators over Oberlin. He pitched a complete game against the Yeomen, allowing two earned runs, walking one and scattering four hits (.167 opponent batting average). He has recorded 66 strikeouts over 39.2 innings this season, an average of 14.97 strikeouts per nine innings. __________________________________________________________________________ April 3, 2006 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Wabash freshman second baseman Mike Nowak (Munster, IN/Munster) led the Little Giants to a perfect 4-0 NCAC record and a 5-1 week overall. He was 9-for-23 (.391) for the week, scoring six runs with three homers, seven RBI and 18 total bases. He also had two walks and a sacrifice bunt with no strikeouts. He had only one error in 19 total chances in the field in six games at second. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Wittenberg senior Jason Holmberg (Miamisburg, OH/Kettering Alter) tossed an 11-inning complete game to lead Wittenberg to a 4-3 win in the OWU series opener. He then came in during game four to earn the last two outs. He allowed seven hits and three runs, one of which was earned, while walking one and striking out six in 11.2 innings of work during which he threw 106 pitches. __________________________________________________________________________ March 27, 2006 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Wooster sophomore outfielder/designated hitter Sean Karpen (Venetia, PA/ Peters Township) helped the Scots to a four-game sweep of Oberlin to open NCAC play by going 7-for-15 (.467) with eight runs scored, a pair of doubles, a home run and five RBI. He also walked once and was hit by four pitches (.600 on-base pct.) and stole six bases in seven attempts. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Wooster senior right-hander Jon Oliver (West Chester, OH/Lakota West) became the first Wooster pitcher since Brett Beech in 1993 to throw a no-hitter. He faced just two batters over the minimum in the first game of the Oberlin series, yielding two walks and striking out nine en route to a 6-0 win. Oliver is 3-0 in three starts this season with a 0.47 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 19.0 innings. __________________________________________________________________________ March 20, 2006 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Denison senior first baseman Lee Fischer (Gahanna, OH/Lincoln) hit .593 and was 16-for-27 in eight starts last week to lead the Big Red on their spring break trip. Fischer led the team with 14 runs batted in. He scored 11 runs, had two doubles, one triple and one home run while walking six times. He also was 4-of-6 in stolen base opportunities and posted a .686 on-base percentage. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Kenyon senior pitcher Michael Coe (Kensington, MD/Montgomery Blair) was a perfect 2-0 during the Lords' second week in Florida. He had two complete games and registered a 1.59 earned run average by beating Mount Saint Vincent 12-2 and shutting down Westminster 8-3. He gave up just 13 hits and had 18 strikeouts in his 17 innings of work. __________________________________________________________________________
