__________________________________________________________________________ September 13, 2008 OFFENSE Wabash junior quarterback Matt Hudson (Salem, IN/Salem) threw for 391 yards and tied a school record with six touchdown passes. He tied Jake Knott's mark, which was set twice in the 2000 season, despite having to contend with an injured thumb. The ninth-ranked Little Giants defeated Denison, 41-27, in the NCAC opener for both teams. DEFENSE Kenyon junior safety Mason Stabler (Littleton, CO/Kent Denver School) paced the Lord defense in a thrilling, 39-36, defeat of Chicago. Stabler led with 10 tackles, two for a loss, forced a fumble, recovered a fumble and broke up one pass. __________________________________________________________________________ September 7, 2008 OFFENSE: Denison senior quarterback Mike Barnes (Gates Mills, OH/Mayfield) led the Big Red to a strong start with a single-game record 270 yards rushing in the Big Red's 49-27 defeat of Kalamazoo. Barnes scored on three touchdown runs on 17 attempts, and passed for 175 yards and another score. The 445 yards of total offense was the best performance since Greg Neuendorf totaled 470 against Wabash in 2000. The single-game rushing mark tied Clay Sampson, who carried for 270 yards in 1979. In all, the Big Red rolled up 542 yards of offense, and held Kalamazoo to 41 yards on the ground. DEFENSE: Hiram freshman linebacker Jon Hull (Buford, GA/MIll Creek) led the Terrier defense in a 20-14 overtime victory over Gallaudet. He made eight solo tackles, two tacles for a loss of six yards, forced a fumble, recovered a fumble and broke up two passes. The Terriers snapped a 26-game losing skid, and held Gallaudet to 83 total yards - all passing - and zero net rushing yards. __________________________________________________________________________
