__________________________________________________________________________ November 17, 2002 GROVE AND MURPHY NAMED OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK CLEVELAND -- Wittenberg senior Daniel Grove (Uhrichsville, Ohio/Claymont) and Oberlin freshman Vance Murphy (Pataskala, OH/Watkins Memorial) have been named offensive and defensive "Players of the Week" for their performances last week in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Grove, a 5-8,200-pound tailback, playing his first game since breaking two bones in his foot five weeks ago, posted 212 yards on 34 carries. It was Grove’s second 200-yard rushing day in 2002 and his fourth in the last two seasons. He finishes the season with 929 yards and 16 touchdowns on 129 carries in just six games. Murphy, a 6-3, 190-pound linebacker, led the Yeomen defense with nine total tackles. He also racked up three pass deflections and a 36-yard touchdown on an interception return early in the third quarter. __________________________________________________________________________ November 10, 2002 SYE AND LITTLE NAMED OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Allegheny sophomore Jamie Sye (Titusville, PA/Titusville) and Ohio Wesleyan junior Travis Little (Wheelersburg, OH/Wheelersburg) have been named offensive and defensive "Players of the Week" for their performances last week in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Sye, a 6-0, 205-pound tailback, scored a touchdown and averaged 12.3 yards per carry to lead the Gators past Earlham, 28-7. He carried the ball 12 times for 148 yards, with his longest effort picking up 93 yards. Little, a 6-4, 200-pound defensive end, led the Battling Bishop defense with eight tackles, including two and one-half for a loss. He recorded one sack and one pass breakup. He made a stop on fourth and ten to end Oberlin's last offensive drive and seal the 14-13 win for OWU. __________________________________________________________________________ November 3, 2002 RUMMELL AND KOPROWSKI NAMED OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Earlham freshman Justin Rummell (Ingalls, IN/Pendleton Hts.) and Denison sophomore Tim Koprowski (Verona, NJ/Newark Academy) have been named offensive and defensive "Players of the Week" for their performances last week in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Rummell, a 6-2, 185-pound quarterback, was 8-for-19 for 195 yards and one touchdown in the Quakers' 28-21 win over Oberlin. The win puts Earlham in sole possession of fourth place in the league standings. Koprowski, a 5-9, 188-pound linebacker, led the Big Red defense to its first shutout since 1998 and recorded a team-high eight tackles against Hiram. He also recorded one sack and three tackles for a loss. On the season, Koprowski leads Denison with 70 tackles. He is tied for fourth amongst all conference linebackers, averaging 8.8 tackles per game. __________________________________________________________________________ October 27, 2002 SMITH AND LEGREE NAMED OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Allegheny junior Bubba Smith (Doylestown, OH/Chippewa) and Kenyon freshman Jeff Legree (Roseville, MI/University Liggett) have been named offensive and defensive "Players of the Week" for their per- formances last week in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Smith, a 6-0, 185-pound quarterback, recorded four touchdowns in the Gators' win over Denison. He completed 17 of 28 passes for 258 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 90 yards, reaching the endzone once. Legree, a 6-0, 175-pound defensive back, led the Lords past Hiram, 22-10, with two tackles, four pass defenses and two interceptions, returned for a combined 40 yards. The victory was the first for Kenyon this season. __________________________________________________________________________ October 20, 2002 HURT AND JAQUAY NAMED OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Earlham senior Jermel Hurt (Michigan City, IN/Michigan City) and Oberlin junior Greg Jaquay (Salina, KS/Highland College) have been named offensive and defensive "Players of the Week" for their perfor- mances last week in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Hurt, a 5-7, 190-pound running back, scored three touchdowns in the Quakers' win over Denison. He churned up 93 yards on the ground, reaching the endzone twice. He also hauled in one pass for 42 yards and a touchdown to lead Earlham to their fourth win over the Big Red in 12 meetings between the two schools. Jaquay, a 6-0, 195-pound linebacker, led the Yeomen past Kenyon with a team-high 15 tackles. He made 12 solo stops while no other player had more than six. Jaquay also recorded one sack for a loss of five yards. __________________________________________________________________________ October 13, 2002 STOLL AND BOULAIS NAMED OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Denison sophomore John Stoll (Grand Rapids, MI/West Catholic) and Wabash junior Nate Boulais (Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis) have been named offensive and defensive "Players of the Week" for their performances last week in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Stoll, a 6-0, 186-pound quarterback, passed for a career-high 318 yards in the Big Red's win over Kenyon. He was 25-28 with four touchdown passes. Stoll, making his second career start, was making his first appearance since suffering a separated shoulder in the Denison's first game this year. Boulais, a 6-2, 215-pound linebacker, led the Little Giants past Wittenberg, 46-43, with a career-best 16 tackles. He had 10 solo stops and one tackle for a loss. Boulais assisted on the final tackle in overtime, stopping the Tigers short of a first down and forcing them to kick a field goal attempt that sailed wide right. His performance pushed him past the 300-career tackle mark (314). __________________________________________________________________________ October 6, 2002 SUTTON AND JOHNSON NAMED OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Wooster sophomore Tony Sutton (Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) and Wabash junior Stu Johnson (West Lafayette, IN/Harrison) have been named offensive and defensive "Players of the Week" for their performances last week in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Sutton, a 5-9, 185-pound running back, rushed for an NCAC-record 313 yards on 36 carries to lead Wooster past Ohio Wesleyan, 37-14. Sutton smashed former Scot Brian Grandison's school and NCAC standard (292) that had stood since 1991. He also tied NCAC marks for touchdowns (5) and points (30). Johnson, a 6-1, 202-pound safety, recorded four tackles to lead the Little Giant defense in a key NCAC victory over Allegheny last week. His pass break-up on third and 10 with the Gators driving in the fourth quarter, down just 17-14, proved to be the deciding play in Wabash's 24-14 victory. __________________________________________________________________________ September 29, 2002 JORDAN AND GOLDSBURY NAMED OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Oberlin sophomore Chris Jordan (Temecula, CA/Chapparal) and Wittenberg senior Dustin Goldsbury (Columbus, OH/Bishop Ready) have been named offensive and defensive "Players of the Week" for their performances last week in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Jordan, a 5-10, 185-pound running back, rushed for 181 yards on 23 carries. With Oberlin trailing 14-6 after the first half, Jordan opened the third quarter with two touchdowns, leading the Yeomen to a 35-14 come-from-behind win. Goldsbury, a 6-0, 235-pound linebacker, recorded three tackles, leading the Tiger defense that held Thomas More to just 13 yards on 27 rushing attempts. Goldsbury also had two sacks for a loss of 14 yards, as well as one interception, which he returned six yards. Wittenberg beat Thomas More 31-6. __________________________________________________________________________ September 22, 2002 SUTTON AND FANELLI NAMED OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Wooster sophomore Tony Sutton (Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) and Wabash junior Nick Fanelli (Crown Point, IN/Lake Central) have been named offensive and defensive "Players of the Week" for their performances last week in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Sutton, a 5-9, 185-pound running back, rushed for 171 yards and two touchdown on 11 carries. He also hauled in Wooster's longest pass play since 1990 - a 77-yard touchdown pass - to lead the Scots past visiting Bethany, 38-28. Suttton compiled 298 all-purpose yards against the Bison, including 50 yards on three kickoff returns. Fanelli, a 6-1, 222-pound linebacker, made six tackles (two solo, four assisted), forced a fumble, and intercepted a pass and returned it four yards in the Little Giant's 44-7 win over Earlham. Fanelli helped the Wabash defense hold its opponent to under 100 rushing yards as a team for the second straight week. __________________________________________________________________________ September 15, 2002 MORRIS AND MCCARTY NAMED OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Wabash junior Chris Morris (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville) and Ohio Wesleyan freshman Ryan McCarty (Grove City, OH/Bishop Ready) have been named offensive and defensive "Players of the Week" for their performances last week in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Morris, a 5-10, 200-pound running back, rushed for 133 yards and one touchdown on 25 carries. Morris helped propel the Little Giants to a come-from-behind 28-21 win over Kalamzoo. Wabash never led until the final 30 seconds of the game. McCarty, a 5-10, 155-pound safety, sealed the Battling Bishops 25-21 win over Olivet by picking off a Comet pass in the Ohio Wesleyan end zone with five seconds left on the clock. He totalled two interceptions and broke up three others while also recovering two fumbles. McCarty registered five tackles against Olivet. __________________________________________________________________________ September 9, 2002 IVERY AND ROOKER NAMED OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Wittenberg junior Skip Ivery (Columbus, OH/Groveport-Madison) and Wooster senior Kevin Rooker (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands) have been named offensive and defensive "Players of the Week" for their performances last week in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Ivery, a 5-11, 178-pound wide receiver, was on the receiving end of the longest pass play (94 yards) in Wittenberg history in the Tigers' 44-7 win over Albion. He finished with three catches for 122 yard. Rooker, a 6-0, 200-pound defensive back, helped lead the Fighting Scots to a 14-9 win over Hope. He registered nine tackles and one interception.
