__________________________________________________________________________ November 7, 2004 Wooster senior Tony Sutton (Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban), a 5-10, 200- pound tailback, has been named offensive player of the week for his efforts in Wooster's record-setting 64-58 overtime win over Wittenberg. He was held to 52 yards on 16 rushes and one touchdown in the first half against the Tigers before exploding for 169 yards and four scores in his final 22 carries in the second half. He was the only Wooster offensive player to touch the ball in overtime, and provided the winning score on a 13-yard rush. He compiled 344 all-purpose yards, including 221 rushing, and set conference career records for all-purpose yards (5,749) and rushing touchdowns (70). Kenyon freshman Josh Cowgill (Sciotoville, OH/Wheelersburg), a 5-10, 170-pound defensive back, has been named defensive player of the week after he led all defenders against Hiram with 12 tackles. He also forced a fumble and had one tackle for a loss of five yards. __________________________________________________________________________ October 31, 2004 Ohio Wesleyan junior Ryan Sir Louis (Hinckley,OH/Highland), a 6-0, 205- pound quarterback, has been named co-offensive "Player of the Week" after scoring three touchdowns, including the gamewinning 1-yard run on fourth down with 1:54 left in the fourth quarter, and leading the Battling Bishops to a 28-24 win over Wittenberg. He scored on a 1-yard run to hand OWU an early 7-0 lead and on a 30-yard run to push the Bishops to 14-10 in the third quarter. He set up the gamewinning TD with a 35-yard gain on fourth- and-3 from the 50-yard line, making a total of two fourth-down conversions that he converted during the gamewinning drive. He also completed a pass for 11 yards on the same drive. He finished with 139 yards on 20 carries and completed 5-of-8 passes for 33 yards. One of his runs was a season-long 55-yarder and he averaged 9.2 yards per attempt. Sutton set NCAC career records for total touchdowns (69) and scoring (414 points), surpassing Wittenberg’s Casey Dondaldson, who scored 68 touchdowns and 408 points during his 39-game career (regular season- only). It took Sutton just 26 games to break those records. Allegheny junior Brad Stotsky (Evans City, PA/Seneca Valley), a 5-10, 184-pound defensive back, has been named defensive "Player of the Week" after recording a career-high 11 tackles, all solo, in the Gator's 16- 10 overtime win at Wabash. On a late-game Little Giant possession, he made two stops in three plays to help force a Wabash punt, which led to Allegheny's game-tying touchdown in regulation. He also broke up one pass. __________________________________________________________________________ October 24, 2004 Wittenberg junior Tristan Murray (New Carlisle, OH/Tecumseh) and Ohio Wesleyan junior Cisco Clervoix (Naples, FL/Naples) have been named offensive and defensive "Players of the Week" for their performances in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Murray, a 5-10, 205-pound running back, rushed for a career-high 218 yards on a career-high 28 carries, and added 17 yards on four receptions to lead the Tigers past Wabash. He scored four touchdowns, which tied a career best, including the game-clincher from three yards out with under a minute to play. Clervoix, a 6-0, 200-pound linebacker, made two key plays late in the fourth quarter with his team holding onto a 30-24 lead. He sacked Kenyon's quarterback on first down, then brought down the Lord tailback on third down to seal the Bishop victory. He finished with seven tackles, including 2-1/2 sacks for a loss of 20 yards. __________________________________________________________________________ October 17, 2004 Earlham junior Justin Rummell (Ingalls, IN/Pendleton Hts.) and Wooster senior Brian Knight (Dublin, OH/Fallbrook, CA) have been named offensive and defensive "Players of the Week" for their performances in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Rummell, a 6-3, 200-pound quarterback, connected on 18 of his 28 pass attempts for a school record 427 yards and three touchdowns in the win over Oberlin. He also ran for one touchdown. He broke his own record, which he set earlier this season. Rummell leads the NCAC, averaging 305.7 passing yards per game. Knight, a 5-9, 180-pound free safey, intercepted Wabash's second-to-last drive, broke up two other passes, and made six tackles to help the Scots to a 33-30 win. His interception came at the Scot 3-yard line, with Wooster clinging to a three-point lead (33-30) and just 1:21 remaining on the clock. He also returned it 22 yards to give the offense some breathing room, as Wooster attempted to run out the clock. __________________________________________________________________________ October 10, 2004 Ohio Wesleyan senior Nathanael Jonhenry (Berea, OH/Berea) and Denison sophomore Derek Fry (Butler, OH/Clear Fork) have been named offensive and defensive "Players of the Week" for their performances in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Jonhenry, a 5-9, 190-pound wide fullback, scored on a 16-yard run for the game-winning TD with 4:52 left in regulation as the Bishops knocked off defending NCAC champ Allegheny. He had also scored on a five-yard run to erase a 7-0 third-quarter deficit. He finished with 56 yards on seven carries, for a nifty 8.0 per rush average and picked up a pair of first down's on OWU's first scoring drive. Fry, a 5-10, 182-pound running back, recorded his team-high third interception of the season in the second quarter against Hiram that led to Denison’s first touchdown, giving them a 9-0 lead at halftime. He also recorded two tackles and one pass break-up. __________________________________________________________________________ October 3, 2004 Kenyon freshman Rafael Sanchez (Tavernier, FL/Coral Shores). and Earlham junior Michael Thompson (Riverview, FL/East Bay) have been named offensive and defensive "Players of the Week" for their performances in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Sanchez, a 5-10, 185-pound wide receiver, totalled 323 all-purpose yards, including 108 on five receptions. Sanchez returned three punts for 91 yards and five kickoffs for another 130. He ranks fourth in the NCAC in all-purpose yardage (144.5 ypg). Thompson, a 6-0, 195-pound linebacker, led the Quaker defense with 16 stops and two pass break-ups. Earlham shut out an opponent for the first time since October, 2002. He leads his team and ranks second in the NCAC with 44 tackles this season. __________________________________________________________________________ September 26, 2004 Denison sophomore Zach Brent (Ft. Collins, CO/Rocky Mountain) and Wooster senior Bobby Vega (Windsor, CT/Pomfret School) have been named offensive and defensive "Players of the Week" for their performances in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Brent, a 6-1, 195-pound wide receiver, had a career day in the Big Red's 35-23 victory over Gettysburg. He posted career-highs in receptions (11), yards (116) and touchdowns (3), and scored twice within 1:10 in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Vega, a 6-0, 220-pound outside linebacker, made 14 tackles, five of them solo, in the Scots' 49-7 defeat of Case. He had 1.5 tackles for a loss, broke up a pass and hurried the quarterback once. It was his second straight week with double figures in stops. He leads Wooster with 30 tackles this season. __________________________________________________________________________ September 19, 2004 Wittenberg senior Ryan Holmes (Oxford, OH/Talawanda) and Wabash junior Tim Parker (Indianapolis, IN/Warren Central) have been named offensive and defensive “Players of the Week” for their performances in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Holmes, a 6-3, 220-pound quarterback, converted a pass from four yards out with 33.6 seconds remaining to edge Thomas More, 35-31, lifting the Tigers to a 1-1 record. No Wittenberg team has lost two straight games at any time since the opening week of the 1992 season (Tigers lost season closing game in 1991 to Ohio Wesleyan and opened 1992 with loss to Baldwin-Wallace). Holmes finished 19-of-36 for 303 yards and four touchdowns. The 303 passing yards (in addition to 11 carries for 28 rushing yards) were a career-high and the ninth-highest total in Wittenberg history. The four touchdowns were a career high and one shy of a Wittenberg record. Parker, a 5-10, 205-pound linebacker, had four of the Little Giants’ 10 sacks. Parker had eight tackles (6 solo, 2 assists) and accounted for 26 yards of losses with his four sacks. The 10 team sacks are the most for the Little Giants since recording 10 against Denison on November 3, 2001. __________________________________________________________________________ September 12, 2004 Earlham junior Justin Rummell (Ingalls, IN/Pendleton Hts.) and Allegheny junior Vincent Werner (Sheffield, PA/Sheffield Area) have been named offensive and defensive "Players of the Week" for their performances in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Rummell, a 6-3, 200-pound quarterback, led the Quakers to their first victory of the season with 425 yards on 28-for-43 passing, four touchdowns and a rushing TD. It was the first 400-yard passing game in Earlham history; his four scoring passes tied another school mark. Werner, a 5-11, 203-pound linebacker, had two key turnovers in the Gators' overtime victory over Westminster. He scooped up a fumble and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown, then nabbed an interception in the end zone on the Titans' final drive in overtime. __________________________________________________________________________ September 7, 2004 Wooster senior Richie McNally (Westerville, OH/St. Francis DeSales) and Ohio Wesleyan sophomore defensive back Kyle Sherman (Plain City, OH/Dublin Scioto) have been named offensive and defensive "Players of the Week" for their performances in the North Coast Athletic Conference. McNally, a wideout/kicker, totaled a career-high 104 receiving yards on five catches. He accounted for 15 of the Scots' 27 points in a victory over Muskingum, with a 37-yard TD reception, two field goals and three extra points. He became the school's all-time leader in career field goals made, with 19. Sherman, a defensive back, led the Bishops with two interceptions, and a team high nine tackles, five of them solo. In addition, he forced a Franklin fumble on the Bishop one-yard line in the fourth quarter, which resulted in an OWU score on its next possession. __________________________________________________________________________
