__________________________________________________________________________ November 12, 2006 OFFENSE: Wittenberg senior tailback Tristan Murray (New Carlisle, OH/ Tecumseh) broke a school record with his ninth consecutive 100-yard rushing game. In a 35-0 decision over Hiram that gave the Tigers a share of the North Coast title and the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, Murray rushed for 175 yards and four touchdowns. He topped the 4,000-yard rushing mark in his career. DEFENSE: Wabash junior linebacker Adrian Pynenberg (Montgomery, IL/ Oswego) recorded 10 tackles, a sack for a loss of 11 years and snagged an interception and returned it nine yards in the Little Giants’ 23-20, Monon Bell victory over DePauw. He finishes 2006 with 101 tackles (54 solo), 14 tackles for a loss of 73 yards, and 7.5 sacks for a loss of 56 yards. __________________________________________________________________________ November 5, 2006 OFFENSE: Oberlin sophomore running back R.V. Carroll (Perry, OH/Perry) collected 336 yards, on 38 rushes, and five touchdowns on the ground to break five different rushing records in the Yeomen's 56-42 win over Kenyon. No Yeoman had ever tallied 300 yards rushing in a game, and Carroll also broke the Oberlin records for single-season rushing yardage (1,262 yards), rushing touchdowns in a game and season (12) and points scored (30). The previous single-game record (29) for points scored was set in 1961, while the previous single-game rushing high was established in 1963. The Yeomen tallied 590 total yards for the day, which is the second best single-game yardage total in school history. They also broke the school record for total offense in a season (3,416). Additionally, Carroll's five scores helped the squad to 35 touchdowns for the year, which equals the team record set in 1950. In all, seven Oberlin records were broken on Saturday, and Carroll almost topped the NCAC's record for most yards rushing in a game. His total of 336 yards was just two yards shy of Tony Sutton's (Wooster) mark of 338 yards against Case in 2003. DEFENSE: Wabash junior Bryan Engh (Indianapolis, IN/Warren Central) led the Little Giants with a career-high 15 tackles in their 41-14 NCAC-title clinching win over Denison. Engh made only his second career start, making the most of the opportunity with an interception and a 39-yard return to go with his eight solo and seven assisted tackles. __________________________________________________________________________ October 29, 2006 OFFENSE: Earlham senior quarterback Justin Rummell (Ingalls, IN/ Pendleton Hts.) led the Quakers to their first conference victory of the season, a 24-16 decision over Hiram. Rummell completed 17 of 37 pass attempts for 244 yards and three touchdowns. He extended his season record to 21 touchdown passes and his career TD mark to 71. DEFENSE: Allegheny middle linebacker Mateo Villa (Windsor, OH/ Middlefield Cardinal) made 13 tackles, four solo, one tackle for a l oss and a breakup as the Gators knocked off Ohio Wesleyan, 30-13. Villa led the Allegheny defense that held the Bishops to 173 total yards. __________________________________________________________________________ October 21, 2006 OFFENSE: Denison senior running back Fred Lee (St. Louis, MO/MICDS) led the Big Red to their first victory of the season, a 42-7 win over Hiram, with 17 rushes for 103 yards and three touchdowns. Lee leads Denison with 535 rushing yards and six touchdowns in 2006. DEFENSE: Ohio Wesleyan senior end Owen Case (Marion, OH/River Valley) led the Bishops in their 17-10 upset victory over Wittenberg with eight tackles, one-half for a loss, and an interception on the Tigers' final possession, which sealed the win. __________________________________________________________________________ October 15, 2006 OFFENSE: Wittenberg senior tailback Tristan Murray (New Carlisle, OH/ Tecumseh) rushed for 156 yards on 35 carries, and added another 33 yards on three receptions. Murray was the focal point on offense as the Tigers edged Wabash, 19-17. DEFENSE: Ohio Wesleyan junior Chad Ellis (Dublin, OH/Scioto) made a pivotal interception just before the half to preserve a 21-10 lead over Denison going into the locker rooms. Ellis finished the game with a team- best nine tackles. __________________________________________________________________________ October 8, 2006 OFFENSE: Oberlin junior wide out Cassius Harris (Chicago, IL/Loyola Academy) had a game-high five catches for 154 yards and a touchdown, including a 63-yard reception that proved to be the game-winner, leading the Yeomen to an 18-7 victory over Denison. DEFENSE: Junior outside linebacker Greg Schermbeck (Toledo, OH/Whitmer) of Wooster made eight tackles and snagged his first career interception, to lead the Scots to a 24-0 defeat of Ohio Wesleyan. The Bishops had been averaging over 30 points per game through their first five contests. __________________________________________________________________________ October 2, 2006 OFFENSE: Kenyon senior Alby Coombs (Sharon, MA/Bethel) rushed for 207 yards on 34 carries and four touchdowns in the Lords 44-42 win over Ohio Wesleyan. The win was the Lords' first over OWU since 1988 and the four scores tied the Lords record. In just four games, Coombs has rushed for 468 yards on 909 carries, an average of 5.2 yards per carry and six touchdowns. DEFENSE: Wittenberg senior linebacker Joe Swanson (Germantown, OH/Valley View) paced the Tiger defense in a 24-21 win over previously undefeated Wooster. He finished with seven tackles, including two for a loss, one of which was a sack for a nine-yard loss. He also picked off the first pass of his career, and returned it 14 yards to set up a Tiger TD just before the half. __________________________________________________________________________ September 24, 2006 OFFENSE: Wabash senior quarterback Dustin Huff (Martinsville, IN/ Martinsville) threw for a career-best five touchdowns and ran for another in the Little Giants' 42-28 conference opening victory over Ohio Wesleyan. Huff completed 22 of 28 passes for a career-high 416 yards and became just the third player to throw for over 400 yards in school history. DEFENSE: Wittenberg senior safety Adam Hewitt (Piqua, OH/Lehman Catholic) finished with 12 tackles, two sacks, two fumbles recovered, one fumble forced, one fumble returned for a touchdown and a kickoff returned 69 yards to set up the Tigers' second score in Wittenberg's 42-24 win over Alma. One of his sacks resulted in a fumble forced, which he recovered and returned 23 yards for a touchdown. That score tied the game at 21 just before halftime. __________________________________________________________________________ September 17, 2006 OFFENSE: Wabash junior receiver Mike Russell (Terre Haute, IN/North) caught five passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns. He averaged 28.8 yards per catch on the day, and scored on 80- and 11-yards out as the Little Giants beat Millikin, 38-31. DEFENSE: Allegheny's Andy Toner (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) tied an Allegheny single-game record with three interceptions and returned one 30 yards for a touchdown. He also had six tackles, four of them solo in a 52-7 defeat of Hiram. __________________________________________________________________________ September 10, 2006 OFFENSE: Earlham senior quarterback Justin Rummell (Ingalls, IN/Pendleton Hts.) completed 30-of-39 passes for a school-record 507 yards and a school- and conference-record seven touchdown passes, to lead the Quakers to a 49-35 victory over Manchester. He tied his own conference mark, set against the same opponent last season. Rummell added two more school career records to his collection: total offense and completions. He now has 7606 yards of total offense and 621 completions, to go with his career marks in passing (7743) and touchdown passes (59). DEFENSE: Oberlin sophomore linebacker Zach Warner (Flint, MI/Kearsley) led the Yeomen defense in a 48-34 defeat of Heidelberg. Warner recorded seven tackles, two tackles for a loss, and intercepted a pass for 35 yards. __________________________________________________________________________ September 3, 2006 OFFENSE: Wooster sophomore Jordan Ferns (Canfield, OH/Canfield) scored two touchdowns and led the Scots in receiving yards in his team’s 30-22 victory over John Carroll. Ferns snagged four passes for 63 yards, including a 42-yarder that set up Wooster’s first score, and an acrobatic catch in the end zone from nine yards out. Late in the third quarter, after John Carroll had cut the lead to 24-14, Ferns took his first career kickoff return 85 yards for a score to seal the win on Sept. 2. DEFENSE: Kenyon senior Andrew Fuchs (Cincinnati, OH/Mariemont) blocked an extra-point attempt, returned an interception 38 yards, made two tackles and had a sack as the Lords defeated Grinnell, 57-31, on Sept. 2. __________________________________________________________________________
