WOOSTER EDGED OUT OF NCAA TOURNEY

NCAC regular season and tournament champion Wooster (16-6) suffered a 2-1 loss to Stevens Institute of Technology in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to close out its 2008 season. Stevens scored on a penalty stroke with 10:30 remaining, breaking a 1-1 tie and then held on for the victory. The Ducks advance to face defending national champion Bowdoin in the second round of the tournament.

Wooster junior forward Amanda Artman (Shaker Hts., OH/Shaker Hts.) had tied the game at 1-1 with her 29th goal of the season, tying the long-standing NCAC single-season record held by Denison's Meg Filoon (1984).

The Fighting Scots finished the regular season with their third straight (and seventh overall) NCAC championship and then claimed their first conference tournament title to earn their seventh NCAA bid, and first since 2001. The North Coast has had at least one team in the NCAA field in each of its 25 seasons of competition. Follow the NCAA Division III Tournament at www.ncaa.com.
