NCAA logoNorth Coast Athletic Conference regular season (tie) and tournament champion Wooster (17-6) suffered a 4-0 loss to second-ranked Salisbury in the second round of the NCAA tournament to close out its 2009 season. The Fighting Scots had advanced after posting a 2-1 comeback win over Hamilton in the first round. The Scots hosted that contest - their first home NCAA field hockey game. The victory was Wooster’s second all-time in the national tourney (ninth game) and first since 1985. The Fighting Scots finished the regular season with their fourth straight (and eighth overall) NCAC championship and then claimed their second conference tournament title to earn their eighth NCAA bid.

Wittenberg (12-6), which finished the regular season tied for first with Wooster, dropped a 9-0 decision to Lebanon Valley in the first round. The Tigers made their eighth national tournament, and their first since 2004.

The North Coast has had at least one team in the NCAA field in each of its 26 seasons of competition and has been represented by two teams nine previous times - the last being 1995 when Ohio Wesleyan and Wittenberg both advanced.Complete NCAA Tournament information can be found online at: www.ncaa.com
