___________________________________________________________________________ February 24, 2008 Kenyon junior forward Bryan Yelvington (Arlington Hts., IL/John Hersey) came up huge during the final week of the regular season, scoring 52 points on 20-of-28 (.714) shooting from the floor and 11-of-12 (.917) from the line to lead the Lords to a 2-0 week and the fourth seed in the upcoming North Coast Tournament. He added 15 rebounds and six assists as Kenyon defeated Hiram, 93-82, and beat Wittenberg for the first time since 1994, 64-51. ___________________________________________________________________________ February 16, 2008 Wooster senior James Cooper (Springfield, OH/Springfield) led the Fighting Scots to victory over Denison (82-64) and rival Wittenberg (66-61) with a combined 40 points. Cooper scored 16 points against the Big Red, all in the first half, then pumped in a game-high 24 against the Tigers. He hit 9-of-14 three-point shots and 15-of-26 overall field goals in the two games. He now has 1,930 points in his career. Wooster clinched at least a share of the 2008 NCAC title with the wins, their fourth straight. ___________________________________________________________________________ February 10, 2008 Denison senior post Brian Elder (Granville, OH/Watkins Memorial) hit 6-of-10 shots for a team-best 15 points off the bench in a 73-53 loss to Kenyon. He then added 14 in a 78-74 victory over Oberlin for a total of 29 points on 11-of-17 (65.0) shooting for the week. ___________________________________________________________________________ February 3, 2008 Oberlin junior Mike Loll (Davison, MI/Davison), a 6-5 forward, guided the Yeomen to a thrilling 65-64 win over Earlham last week as he fed freshman Ryan Magiera (Louisville, CO/Monarch) for the game-winning layup. Loll led Oberlin in scoring and rebounding with 22 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor and seven boards. He also chipped in four assists and was a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line, which included a pair of clutch shots in the final two minutes of the game. The win snapped a six-game Yeomen losing streak. Earlier in the week, Loll posted 26 points on 10-of-13 (.769) shooting in an 84-69 loss to Ohio Wesleyan. For the week, Loll shot 65.2 percent (15-of-23) from the floor and 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from long range and snagged 14 rebounds. He was an almost perfect 12-of-13 (.923) from the line. ___________________________________________________________________________ January 27, 2008 Hiram sophomore Mike Staley (Perry, OH/Mentor Lake Catholic), a 6-5, guard, lifted the Terriers to a pair of wins over Allegheny, 84-79, and Oberlin, 93-66, last week. The wins stretched Hiram's win streak to three games and improved the Terriers to 4-4 in the NCAC and 7-10 overall, equaling the total number of wins they posted in the complete 2006-07 season (7-19). Staley combined for 35 points in the two games and was 12-for-21 (.571) from the field, 3-for-5 (.600) from long range and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. He leads the Terriers, and is third in the NCAC, with 17.9 points per game thus far this season. ___________________________________________________________________________ January 20, 2008 Wittenberg's Brandan Barabino (Toledo, OH/St. John's Jesuit), a 6-4, senior wing, converted three free throws to lift Wittenberg into a tie with Wooster and send their game for first place in the NCAC into overtime. Barabino had missed two charity shots earlier in the contest, but redeemed himself in a big way when he was fouled in the act of shooting from behind the three- point arc with just one second left on the clock and the Tigers down by three. He made all three of the resulting free throws to send the game into the extra session; Wittenberg won 87-86. Barabino scored a career-high 26 points in the game and added eight rebounds and five assists. He finished the week with 35 points and 16 boards. ___________________________________________________________________________ January 13, 2008 Ohio Wesleyan's Dustin Rudegeair, a 6-5, senior post, led the Bishops to a pair of NCAC victories and a 3-1 mark in conference play. Rudegeair posted a team-high 21 points on 9-for-12 (.750) shooting and shared the team lead with nine rebounds in a 76-63 defeat of Kenyon, then finished with team bests in points (23) and rebounds (11) in a 91-53 victory over Hiram. ___________________________________________________________________________ January 6, 2008 Wabash's Andrew Zimmer (Hobart, IN/Hobart), a 6-6, senior center, exploded for a season-high 30 points in an 80-60 defeat of Hiram, and added 13 in a 75-56 win over Allegheny and 19 in 69-64 victory over Southwestern for an average of 20.7 over three games. In all, Zimmer shot 56 percent from the field (23-of-41) including 4-of-9 (44.4 percent) from three-point range, and averaged eight rebounds per game. He also contributed eight blocked shots, five steals and four assists. ___________________________________________________________________________ December 30, 2007 Wooster's Brandon Johnson (Columbus, OH/Groveport Madison), a 6-2, junior guard, helped Wooster improve to 9-2 on the season with wins over Wesley (94-61) and Notre Dame, OH (87-71) at the Fighting Scots' own "Mose" Hole Classic. He earned tournament MVP recognition after he recorded 40 points, 11 assists, two turnovers and six steals and did not miss a free throw in 10 attempts. In the title game, he scored a career-high 26 points, including six-of-nine shooting from three-point range. ___________________________________________________________________________ December 10, 2007 Oberlin's Mike Loll (Davison, MI/Davison), a 6-5, junior forward, scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Yeomen past Earlham, 68-59, in NCAC play. The victory snapped Oberlin's seven-game losing skid and evened their conference mark at 1-1. Earlier in the week, Oberlin lost to 25th-ranked Wooster by a 94-54 score. Loll had team bests with 16 points and five rebounds against the Fighting Scots and finished the week with team-best totals of 37 points and 16 rebounds. ___________________________________________________________________________ December 3, 2007 Kenyon's Dave Knapke (Westerville, OH/St. Francis DeSales), a 6-5, sophomore forward, led the Lords to a conference season-opening 67-66 defeat of Wabash. Knapke, last year’s NCAC Newcomer of the Year, led the way with 12 points and 10 rebounds to register his third straight double- double. The Lords and Little Giants saw 23 lead changes and 10 ties, but an offensive rebound and ensuing put-back with under a minute left by Knapke sealed Kenyon’s first win of 2007-08. ___________________________________________________________________________ November 26, 2007 Dustin Rudegeair (Yellow Springs, OH/Yellow Springs), a 6-5, senior post, scored a team-high 25 points and added 12 rebounds to lead Ohio Wesleyan past nationally ranked Baldwin-Wallace, 98-68, in the first round of the HIA Tournament at Rochester. He then scored seven points in a 12-0 OWU run that gave the Bishops a 14-2 lead at ninth-ranked Rochester. He finished with 14 points and three rebounds in the 76-69 championship-game loss. For the week, Rudegeair totalled 39 points and 15 rebounds. ___________________________________________________________________________ November 19, 2007 Earlham's Tristan Gregory (Evansville, IN/Harrison), a 6-2, junior guard, was named MVP at the Case Alumni Association Tip-Off Tournament. He scored a combined 62 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the two games. He was 16-of-19 (.842) at the free throw line and was 12-of-21 (.571) from behind the three-point arc. Gregory also contributed three steals, two assists and a block as the Quakers claimed the Tip-Off title. __________________________________________________________________________
