__________________________________________________________________________ February 22, 2004 Denison freshman Danny Hodgkinson (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) tallied his eighth and ninth double-double’s of the season this week, scoring a team high 26 points and 10 rebounds in a victory over Kenyon. He followed with a 17-point, 10-rebound performance in a loss to Hiram. For the two games he was 13-of-23 (.565) from the field and was 17-of-24 (.708) from the free throw line. He needs only 20 points to tie for 10th among Denison’s all-time single-season scoring leaders. His 471 points are the most ever scored by a freshman in the 102 seasons of Denison men’s basketball and the most since Jason Rusnak’s 495 point season in 1997-98. Hodgkinson is fourth in NCAC scoring after the regular season with 18.8 points per game. He is second in field goal percentage (.584) and is third in rebounding (8.4 rpg). __________________________________________________________________________ February 15, 2004 Oberlin senior guard Cameron Leverett (Columbus, OH/Northland) led the Yeomen to their first two conference wins of the season last week. He drained a school-record seven three-pointer’s, five of which came in the first half, on his way to a team-high 25 points in a 70-61 victory over Denison. He shares the record with single-game three-pointers with James Knight (vs. Kenyon, 1/27/98) and Chip Winiarski (vs. Wooster, 1/17/87). He then sealed a 69-66 win over Hiram with a perfect 4-for-4 showing at the free throw line at the end of the game. He totalled seven points and three steals against the Terriers. __________________________________________________________________________ February 8, 2004 Allegheny senior guard Matt Magnusen (Plum, PA/Plum) averaged 23.7 points and 5.3 rebounds as the Gators went 2-1 last week. He shot 52.8 percent (28-of-53) from the field and was 9-of-11 (.818) from the charity stripe. The senior led Allegheny in scoring with 29 points against St. Vincent, 27 points in a conference win over Hiram and 15 points in an NCAC victory over Denison. For the season, Magnusen is averaging a conference-best 21.8 points while shooting 50.0 percent from the field. He has led Allegheny in scoring in 14 games including the last six. __________________________________________________________________________ February 1, 2004 Wooster sophomore forward Tom Port (Avon Lake, OH/Avon Lake) totaled 38 points and 20 rebounds, including career-highs of 24 points and 15 boards at Allegheny, to keep the Scots one-game in back of Wittenberg. In the Earlham game, he broke a 63-63 tie with a driving dunk at the 1:10 mark, and Wooster eventually pulled away. Port also combined for six assists (compared to four turnovers) in the two games, and now leads the team in scoring (13.6 ppg), rebounding (7.2 rpg), and assists (3.1 apg). __________________________________________________________________________ January 25, 2004 Kenyon senior Derrick Herman (Hagerstown, MD/St. Maria Goretti), a 6-3 forward, recorded team-highs of 16 points and nine rebounds in a 70-68 win over Oberlin after scoring the final five points in 70-65 win over Denison. He finished the week with 23 points, 16 rebounds and an 11-of-13 (.846) performance at the free throw line, which includes a perfect 10- for-10 evening against Oberlin. __________________________________________________________________________ January 18, 2004 Hiram's Carleton Dean (Cleveland Hts., OH/Lutheran East) has been named men's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Dean, a 6-4, junior forward, led the Terriers to their first NCAC wins of the season last week. He totalled 57 points and 16 rebounds in the two games on 22-of-33 shooting from the field (.667). He also hit 12-of-17 (.706) from the free throw line. He compiled his second double-double of the season, and the third of his career, with 29 points and 10 rebounds against Allegheny and followed with 28 points and six boards against Oberlin. He's tied with Kenyon's Matt Formato for third in NCAC scoring with 18.1 points per game. __________________________________________________________________________ January 11, 2004 Ohio Wesleyan's Travis Schwab (Medina, OH/Medina) has been named men's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Schwab, a 6-6, senior post, led the Bishops to three wins last week. He opened the week with 28 points and 10 rebounds in an 84-73 win at Case. Against Denison, he scored four points as Ohio Wesleyan opened the game with a 10-3 run and went on to defeat the Big Red. He finished with a team- high 23 points and added six rebounds. He then led the Bishops with 17 points and seven rebounds in a win at Hiram. For the week, he averaged 22.67 points and 7.67 rebounds. He was 25-for-39 (.641) from the field and 16-for-22 (.727) from the free throw line. __________________________________________________________________________ January 4, 2004 Wabash's Adonis Joseph (Mishawaka, IN/Mishawaka) has been named men's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Joseph, a 6-1, sophomore guard, scored a game-high 16 points in the Little Giants' 80-64 win over Hiram after tallying 12 points against Allegheny the previous night. Joseph added two steals and a blocked shot against the Terriers on Saturday. The sophomore guard missed the early part of the season with injuries, but has returned to average 11.1 points a game overall and 11.0 points per conference contest. __________________________________________________________________________ December 8, 2003 Earlham's Jermaine Crumby (Richmond, IN/Richmond) has been named men's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Crumby, a 6-3, freshman forward, led the Quakers with seven points and the game-tying three-pointer to cap a 9-0 second-half scoring run against Oberlin. The Quakers went on to defeat Oberlin, 73-69. Crumby finished the afternoon with a game-high 26 points and nine rebounds, shooting 11-12 (.917) from the field and a perfect 3-3 from behind the three-point arc. He also contributed one steal. __________________________________________________________________________ December 4, 2003 Allegheny's Matt Majzlik (Monaca, PA/Hopewell) has been named men's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Majzlik, a 6-5, sophomore forward, averaged 20.3 points and 9.3 rebounds as the Gators went 2-1 last week. The sophomore shot 52.9 percent (27-51) from the field and recorded a double-double in two of the games. He had 22 points and 13 rebounds against LaRoche and added 16 points and 10 rebounds against St. John Fisher. For the year, Majzlik is leading the team, and the NCAC, in scoring (20.0 ppg) and in rebounding (9.4 rpg), while shooting 50.0 percent (41-82) from the field. __________________________________________________________________________ November 26, 2003 Wittenberg's Daniel Russ (Louisville, KY/Trinity) has been named men's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Russ, a 6-9, sophomore wing, was selected the Kiwanis Classic MVP after he totaled 39 points and 21 rebounds in two games as Wittenberg won its own tournament with victories over Eastern and Washington (MO). He also had four blocks against Washington and he scored six of the team' nine points in a decisive nine-point second-half run. __________________________________________________________________________
