___________________________________________________________________________ February 19, 2006 Ohio Wesleyan senior Andy Warnock (Delaware, OH/Hayes), a 6-3 wing, scored 36 points to help lead the Bishops to a 2-0 week, with wins over Oberlin and top-ranked Wooster. He scored six points to help fuel an early 15-0 OWU run in a 73-53 win over Oberlin. He finished with nine points, four rebounds, two steals and an assist in the victory. Warnock then helped OWU defeat first-place Wooster, 86-83. He led the Bishops with a career-high 27 points, including three of the Bishops' final seven points points during the final minutes to help clinch the win. He was 8-of-10 from the free throw line and also added three rebounds, an assist and a steal. ___________________________________________________________________________ February 12, 2006 Wittenberg senior Daniel Russ (Louisville, KY/Trinity), a 6-9 post, turned in one of the finest games of his career in a 66-54 decision over Ohio Wesleyan. He scored 24 points, including the first 11 his team scored in the game, grabbed nine rebounds, blocked five shots and passed out four assists. In a 81-52 decision over Hiram, he finished with 16 points and six boards in 19 minutes of action. The Tigers clinched the second seed in the upcoming North Coast tournament. ___________________________________________________________________________ February 5, 2006 Wooster sophomore James Cooper (Springfield, OH/Springfield South), a 6-0 shooting guard, was the leading scorer in both Fighting Scot wins last week. In a 121-88 win over Allegheny, he went for 25 points and then s cored 24 in the win over top-ranked Wittenberg. Overall, he shot 17-of-24 (.708) from the field, including 7-of-9 (.778) three-pointers and 8-of-10 (.800) free throws. He also combined for eight assists (five against Wittenberg), six rebounds and two steals. Oberlin junior Quinton Spencer (Chicago, IL/Brother Rice), 6-1 guard/ forward, led the Yeomen to their first win of the 2005-06 season, a 102- 100 triple-overtime victory over Hiram. Spencer racked up a career-high 47 points and 12 rebounds. His point total tied the Oberlin record for most points in a game, held by Chip Winiarski. Spencer also led the way with 27 points and nine rebounds in a 74-65 loss to Denison. For the week, he finished with 74 points and 21 rebounds, nine assists, six steals and a block. He was 27-for-49 (.551) from the floor, 5-for-13 (.385) from the three-point arc and 15-for-20 (.750) from the free throw line. ___________________________________________________________________________ January 29, 2006 Allegheny junior Casey McCloskey (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep), a 6-1 guard, once again led the Gators, averaging 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists in the team's two NCAC wins last week. He also picked up five steals and shot .789 (15-19) from the free throw line, .409 (9-22) from the floor and .400 (2-5) from long range. In an 86-76 win over Hiram, he led all scorers with 22 points and seven assists. He followed that performance with 13 points, four assists and four rebounds in an 80-72 win over Kenyon. ___________________________________________________________________________ January 22, 2006 Wooster sophomore James Cooper (Springfield, OH/Springfield South), a 6-0 shooting guard, exploded for 64 points as the Scots picked up wins over Hiram (102-91) and Ohio Wesleyan (103-94). His week was highlighted by a career-high 37 points against OWU. The 37 points are highest point total in a single men's game this season. He also scored 27 at Hiram, including 10 points in the final 6:28 to help fend off a Terrier rally. Overall, Cooper shot 25-of-38 (.658) from the field, including 7-of-11 (.636) three- pointers, and 7-of-9 (.778) free throws. He also added three rebounds, six assists and two steals. ___________________________________________________________________________ January 15, 2006 Kenyon's Brian Yelvington (Arlington Hts., IL/John Hersey) has been named men's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Yelvington, a 6-6 freshman forward, poured in 41 points and grabbed 25 reboundsas the Lords went 2-1 last week. He posted back-to-back double- doubles to lead Kenyon to its first NCAC wins of the season. He scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against Hiram and 14 points and 11 rebounds against Oberlin. For the week, he was 5-of-9 (.556) on three- pointers and 12-of-14 (.857) at the free throw line. ___________________________________________________________________________ January 8, 2006 Ohio Wesleyan's Ben Chojnacki (Medina, OH/Medina) has been named men's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Chojnacki, a 6-4 junior post, led the Battling Bishops to a 2-0 week with a combined 36 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and two steals. He shared the team lead in a win over Denison with 16 points off 8-of-9 (.889) shooting from the field and hit three baskets during a key 9-0 second-half Bishop run. He led OWU with 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists at Kenyon and converted a pair of three-pointers early in the second half as the Bishops pulled away. ___________________________________________________________________________ December 12, 2005 Hiram's TC Spencer (Yorkville, OH/Tri-State Christian Academy) has been named men's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Spencer, a 6-5, senior center, shot .737 percent from the floor (14-19) to lead Hiram last week. He totalled 33 points over the Terriers' two games and was 5-of-6 from the free throw line (.833). He leads the NCAC in field goal percentage, converting 31 of 43 attempts (.721) ___________________________________________________________________________ December 5, 2005 Wabash's Kyle Medeiros (Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis) has been named men's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Medeiros, a 6-0, senior guard, paced the Little Giants with 29 points in wins over DePauw and Oberlin, including 19 in the win over DePauw. He was 11-of-24 (.458) from the field and 4-of-5 from the free throw line in the two contests. ___________________________________________________________________________ November 28, 2005 Wooster's Tim Vandervaart (North Canton, OH/Hoover) has been named men's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Vandervaart, a 6-6, junior forward, earned tournament MVP honors as the Scots won the Emory & Henry Invitational. He scored 16 points and added 16 rebounds in a 77-63 defeat of Methodist, then added 20 points and 17 rebounds in a 150-101 defeat of the hosts in the championship game. Vandervaart shot 12-for-19 (.63.2) from the field, and 12-for-17 (.706) from the line for two-game totals of 36 points and 33 rebounds. ___________________________________________________________________________ November 21, 2005 Earlham's Markous Jewett (Richmond, IN/Richmond) has been named men's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Jewett, a 6-6, junior forward, was named to the all-tournament team at the Equinox Classic in Philadelphia. He poured in 42 points over the t wo games, including 25 against Haverford, to lead the Quakers to a 2-0 season-opening record.
