The North Coast Athletic Conference champion Allegheny men’s team finished third to lead all NCAC teams at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, held Saturday in Highland Hills, Ohio. Juniors Jeramie Parker (Middletown, MD/Middletown) and Chris Marker (Arlingtonn, VA/Yorkstown) finished eighth (25:44.1 over 8K) and 11th (25:50.2), respectively, to earn All-America honors. The third-place showing ties the Gators’ best effort at the national meet, last achieved in 2006. Denison sophomore Dee Salukombo (Lakewood, OH/Lakewood) claimed his first All-America certificate with a 33rd-place finish. It was the best finish by a DU runner since Joe Dunham was 20th in 1999.

Allegheny senior Jake Zimmerman (Leechburg, PA/Kiski School) was 44th, Gator senior Tony Dipre (Twinsburg, OH/Walsh Jesuit) was 49th and junior Zac Ross (Meadville, PA/Meadville) was 83rd. Wabash sophomore Kevin McCarthy (Zionsville, OH/Zionsville) was 12 seconds shy of earning All-America honors, instead placing 36th. It was the best finish by a Little Giant since 1996. Oberlin freshman Eric Line (Dover, DE/Caesar Rodney) placed 130th, and was the third-fastest freshman in the field. Wabash junior Seth Einterz (Zionsville, OH/Zionsville) was 159th, and Ohio Wesleyan sophomore Evan Hitchcock (Fishers, IN/Hamliton Southeastern) was 229th. Hitchcock was the first OWU representative in the race since 1983.

The NCAC champion Oberlin women’s squad was 23rd in the team standings, led by junior Joanna Jonson (Chico, CA/Chico), who was fifth individually. Johnson earned All-America honors for the second year in a row. It was the Oberlin team’s first appeaance in the NCAA Cross Country Championships since 1984. Denison junior Katie Navarre (Upper Arlington, OH/Upper Arlington) was right behind her in sixth to earn All-America status, also for the second consecutive season. Navarre’s finish is the best in Big Red women’s cross country history. Wittenberg sophomore Mary Pfeifer (Dublin, OH/Coffman) placed 67th, the second-best finish by a Tiger runner in school history. In 2002, Wittenberg’s Abi Gerstle was 54th.
