Edited: April 28, 2008 NCAC Multi-Event Championships: Ohio Wesleyan junior Andrew Bloom (Powell, OH/Worthington Kilbourne) was the decathlon champion and Allegheny senior Emily Pfeufer (St. Marys PA/Elk County Catholic) won the heptathlon. Bloom set a school record with 5,804 points, to edge the second-place finisher, Oberlin junior Kyle Taljan (North Ridgeville, OH/St. Ignatius) by 72 points. Bloom won the 100 meters, long jump, high jump, and 110-meter hurdles. Pfeufer scored 4,388 points to outscore runner-up senior Ashley Shaffer (Lancaster, OH/Lancaster) of Ohio Wesleyan by 227 points. Pfeufer won three of the seven events: the high jump, long jump and javelin. Both Pfeufer and Shaffer qualified for the NCAA Division III championships in the heptathlon. Men's Notes: Mike Barnes (Gates Mills, OH/Mayfield) won the 400 meters to lead DENISON in their own Last Chance Meet - the Big Red's first outdoor home meet since 1999. Barnes finished in 50.15 seconds to win by .52 seconds over the second-place runner. Lex Hultquist (Knoxville, TN/Webb School) won the 800 (1:58.17) and 1500 ... HIRAM sophomore Stefhen Offutt (Twinsburg, OH/Twinsburg) wound up sixth in the long jump (20-3.75) at the Oberlin Invitational ... At the Denison Last Chance Meet, KENYON sophomore Milen Kozarov (Plovdiv, Blugaria/Plovdiv Language) won the high jump (6-0) ... Sophomore David Burke (Hudson, OH/Hudson) led OHIO WESLEYAN at the Denison Last Chance meet. He won the long jump (21-4), was third in the triple jump and fourth in the high jump ... For the first time in school history, WABASH had two competitors clear 15 feet in the pole vault at the same meet. Freshman Rob Trahin (Leo, IN/Bishop Dwenger) cleared 4.60 meters (15-1) while classmate Rob Smallman (Hobart, IN/Hobart) cleared the same height at the Stan Lyons Open, hosted by Butler at the IUPUI track in Indianapolis ... Junior Erik Larkin (Cincinnati, OH/Country Day) paced WITTENBERG at the Oberlin Invitational. He won the triple jump, was second in the long jump and third in the high jump ... WOOSTER sophomore Eric Dyer (Lexington, MA/Lexington) broke a 32-year old school record en route to winning the triple jump at the Denison Last Chance meet. His effort of 46 feet, 9.5 inches bested King Lewis' 1976 mark of 46-5 and is the seventh-best leap in Division III this season.
