![]() Denison won its first North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament championship with a 3-2 overtime victory in the final game of the Tournament. The Big Red built up a two-goal lead behind scores from Luke Lennox and David Folt, but the Gators countered with a pair of goals of their own. Jeremy Garbutt and Chris Fedele found the back of the net to knot the score at 2-2 and force the game into the extra session. Ryan Linn secured the Denison victory with a breakaway goal he sent past the far post and into the net. Denison had defeated the third-seeded Oberlin, 2-0, in the semifinals to advance to their third NCAC Tournament championship game. Allegheny slipped past 2006 regular season champ Ohio Wesleyan in their semifinal matchup, 4-3, on penalty kicks after battling the Bishops to a 0-0 double-overtime tie. The Gators earned their third straight trip to the championship game, and fourth overall. Allegheny last won the NCAC Tournament in 2004, advancing 5-3, on penalty kicks, after tying the Big Red, 0-0 in double overtime. As the tournament winner, Denison receives the NCAC’s automatic bid into the 2006 NCAA Tournament.
Allegheny and Ohio Wesleyan have never failed to make the NCAC tourney field since it began in the 2000 season. The Bishops have won the tournament championship five times, including the first four times the tournament was held. The Gators are the only team besides OWU, and now Denison, to win the event. Oberlin made its second straight trip to the post-season.
