CLEVELAND --
Ohio Wesleyan junior Tyler Wall (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) and Kenyon senior Jeremy Fischer (Los Angeles, CA/Harvard-Westlake) have been named Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year to highlight the 2009 All-North Coast Athletic Conference men's soccer selections.

Wall, a midfielder, recorded nine goals and 11 assists for 1.32 points per game to lead the Battling Bishop offense. He is a three-time, first-team All-NCAC selection for OWU, which went a perfect 9-0 in conference play, 18-2-2 overall. Fischer, a defender, earns Defensive Player of the Year honors for the second straight year. He paced a Lord defense that finished second in goals allowed and shutouts to conference champion Ohio Wesleyan.

Besides Wall and Fischer, two other players are three-time first-team honorees. Hiram senior Nick Gdanetz (McKeen, PA/Erie Cathedral Prep) and Kenyon junior Felix Hoffman (Bergheim, Germany/Trinity-Pawling) each make their third consecutive appearance on the top squad. Hiram senior David Mason (Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) makes the top squad for the second straight year.

Earlham junior Bannett Asingura (Mbarara, Uganda/United World College), Oberlin senior Skyler Dum (Milford, MI/Detroit Catholic Central) and Denison senior Peter Shorten (Hudson, OH/Western Reserve Academy) each move up to the first team after earning second-team recognition in 2008. Kenyon sophomore Keith Dangarembwa (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/St. Columbus) and Denison junior Drew Lash (Ballwin, MO/Whitfield School) both make the jump from honorable mention last year to the first team in 2009.

Hiram freshman defender Mike Verdile (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) earned Newcomer of the Year recognition. One of four first-year players to earn All-NCAC recognition, he paced the Terrier defense that allowed 22 goals and led Hiram to a fourth-place finish in the conference and its second straight NCAC Tournament berth.

Ohio Wesleyan head coach Jay Martin is the NCAC's Men's Coach of the Year for the eighth time after he guided the Battling Bishops to their 18th North Coast crown. Martin and OWU earned their record 32nd appearance in the NCAA tournament. He has a 566-111-47 record in 33 years with the Battling Bishops.
