Kenyon senior Michael Greenberg (Chapel Hill, NC/East Chapel Hill) had to shuffle his schedule a bit, but the result was well worth it. Greenberg completed his run through the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional singles championship with a three-set victory in the final match. Kenyon competes in the ITA’s Central Region, but the Central Region held its tournament last weekend and Greenberg could not participate during Yom Kippur. His request for a transfer to the Midwest Regional was granted. Greenberg entered the 128-player singles tournament as the No. 1 seed. He received a bye in the first round and then went on to post 6-1, 6-0 wins in each of his first two matches. Saturday, he played two more matches and disposed of his competition in straight sets once again. Greenberg prevailed 7-6, 4-6, 6-2 in the semifinal round and then fought off two set points in the first set of the championship match. He rallied for a 7-5 win over No. 5-seeded Ben Guzick of Carleton. Guzick took the second set 6-1, but Greenberg claimed the championship with a 6-3 win in the final set.

Lords senior William VandenBerg (Milwaukee, WI/University School), who also received approval for the transfer site because he’s Greenberg’s doubles partner, cruised through his first three matches and then pulled off an upset to make it into the quarterfinal round. VandenBerg knocked off the No. 2-seeded Juan Carlos Perez from Grinnell, 6-2, 6-3, before falling to Guzick in the quarterfinal round. VandenBerg and Greenberg entered the 64-team doubles field as the No. 1 seeds and defeated their first four opponents. They were defeated in the semifinals, 8-6, by Scott Sundstrom and Ustab Rijal of Luther, a pairing that went on to win the doubles title.

Ohio Wesleyan sophomore Kevin Kahn (New Albany, OH/Albany), senior Brandon Luttinger (Hingham, MA/Hingham), sophomore Max Razmakhin (Voronezh, Russia/Lyceum #2), freshman Will Thieman (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington), and sophomore Ryan Leslie (Grosse Pointe Park, MI/Grosse Pointe South) were double winners as Ohio Wesleyan blanked Otterbein, 9-0, in non-conference action. Kahn won at No. 1 singles and Luttinger won in straight sets at No. 3 singles. The pair then teamed for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles. Razmakhin recorded a straight-set win at No. 2 singles and paired with Leslie for a win at No. 3 doubles. Leslie won in straight sets at No. 5 singles. Thieman won in straight sets at No. 4 singles and teamed up with junior Scott Hellberg (Sarver, PA/Pittsburgh Central Catholic) for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles.

Oberlin defeated Otterbein, 8-1. Senior Ben Godlove (Forest Hills, NY/Kew Forest School) came away with a stratight set victory at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-4.

Earlham split a pair of matches on Sunday as the Quakers completed their fall season. Franklin edged the Quakers 5-4 then Earlham bounced back with a 5-4 win over Goshen. Henry Levin (Dallas, TX/Highland Park) and Mike Von Vogt (South Bristol, ME/Lincoln Academy) won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles. Levin also took a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles.
