KENYON LORDS AND LADIES CLAIM NCAC CHAMPIONSHIPS; CANTON, OH -- The Kenyon College Lords and Ladies domination of the North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships continues, as both teams successfully defended their team titles at the event which concluded this evening. The Lords, who now own 23 NCAC titles, won four events and turned in 14 overall top-five finishes on the final night of competition to overcome a 44-point Denison lead. The Lords totalled 1,633 points over the three nights to best the second-place Big Red (1,598). Wabash placed third for the second straight year, and the seventh time in nine years with 1,066 points, the second highest total in Little Giant history. Wittenberg placed fourth with 768 points, followed by Wooster (740), Allegheny (477), Hiram (432), Ohio Wesleyan (405) and Oberlin (327) in positions five through nine, respectively. The Ladies, who also boast 23 crowns, won four events tonight and posted 13 overall top-five finishes to lift their three-night total to 1,630 points. Second-place Denison (1,615) was followed by Wooster (886.5) in third and Allegheny in fourth (835.5). Oberlin (659) placed fifth with 659 points; Wittenberg (624), Ohio Wesleyan (555) and Hiram (489) rounded out the standings in positions five through eight, respectively. Denison sophomore Liv Zaleski (Corry, PA/Corry Area) was voted the Female Swimmer of the Year. Individually, she won the women's 100 butterfly with a time of 55.31, which established a new NCAC record and also qualified her for the upcoming NCAA Division III Championships at Miami of Ohio. She also picked up a pair of second-place finishes in the 50 (23.66) and the 100 freestyles (52.21). Zaleski was also a member of the winning 200 free (1:35.53) and 200 medley (1:45.91) relays, as well as the second-place 400 (3:29.35) and 800 (7:43.80) free relays. The times in the 50 free, the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay also bested the national championship time standards. Lords' senior Josh Mitchell (Iron Mountain, MI/Kingsford) was tabbed the Male Swimmer of the Year for the second straight year after posting individual victories in the 50 free (20.61), 100 backstroke (50.27) and the 100 free (45.31). Mitchell won all three events for the second straight year. All three times met the national championship qualifying standards. His time on the 100 free set an NCAC record. Mitchell also swam a leg on three relays - the winning 800 free relay (6:48.44) that turned in an NCAA ‘A” cut, the second-place 200 free relay (1:23.08) and the runner-up 400 free relay (3:02.71). Denison freshman Samantha Salas (Fairfax, VA/Robinson Secondary School) swept both diving events to earn Female Diver of the Year honors. Allegheny senior Jayson Loeffert (Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland) won the three-meter event and was second on the one-meter board to earn the Male Diver of the Year award. Denison's Gregg Parini was voted Women's Swimming Coach of the Year for the sixth time. Wittenberg's Natalie Koukis earned her first Men's Swimming Coach of the Year Award. Ohio Wesleyan's Brian Book repeated as Women's Diving Coach of the Year, while Denison's Stephen Ritter was named Men's Diving Coach of the Year for the third straight season.
