NORTH COAST ATHLETIC CONFERENCE INDOOR TRACK & FIELD RELAYS MEN'S REPORT __________________________________________________________________________ OBERLIN, Ohio -- Wittenberg's men and women claimed their second consecutive championships at the 13th North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Relays, held Jan. 25 at Oberlin's Heisman Club Field House. Wittenberg is the first school since Ohio Wesleyan in 1991-92 to sweep the men's and women's titles over two consecutive seasons. Allegheny also repeated its 1996 form, finishing second in both meets. In a very tight contest among the top three teams, Wittenberg won the men's meet for the third straight season. The Tigers won only one of 12 events, but placed second four times and third four times on the way to 77.5 points. Allegheny was just a step and a half behind, compiling 76 points on one win and seven other top-three finishes. Ohio Wesleyan had three outright firsts and a first-place tie for 68 points and a strong third-place finish, followed by CWRU (52.5) in fourth and Denison (50) in fifth. The Spartans and Big Red each grabbed two firsts and one first- place tie. Ohio Wesleyan senior Soni Lloyd (Portland, OR/Wilson) participated in three first-place relays and has been named NCAC men's track Athlete of the Week. Lloyd ran a leg in the 4x200 (22.3), anchored the 4x400 (51.8) and ran the 400-leg in the sprint medley (51.4). Allegheny junior Mike Erb (Valencia, PA/Pine-Richland) was named field Athlete of the Week after setting a school record with the meet's top triple jump (43' 4-3/4"). Other top performances were turned in by CWRU sophomore Alan Fetters (Piqua, OH/Miami East) and junior Adam Knudson (Salem, SD/McCook Central), who teamed to give the Spartans victories in the long jump (39' 4-1/4") and high jump (12' 4"). __________________________________________________________________________ 1996 North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Relays Heisman Club Field House Oberlin College - Oberlin, Ohio January 25, 1997 - MEN'S TEAM SCORES - 1.
