Kenyon Earns 16th Consecutive NCAC Title;
Denison's Carty Named Swimmer Of The Year

CANTON, Ohio -- Kenyon posted nine first-place finishes on the way 
to its 16th consecutive team title at the North Coast Athletic 
Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, which were held Feb. 
10-12 at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio. The Ladies have 
won all 16 NCAC championships and 24 straight conference (or state) 
crowns overall.

Kenyon won seven individual events and recorded a total of 24 top-three 
performances to compile 1687.5 points. Denison picked up wins in five 
individual events and three of five relays for 1506.5 points and its ninth 
consecutive (12th overall) second-place finish. Wooster totaled 1121 points 
to place third for the third year in a row and seventh time overall. Allegheny 
retained fourth with 773 points, followed by Ohio Wesleyan (670), Wittenberg 
(634), Oberlin (532) and Hiram (267) in positions five through eight, respectively.

Kenyon junior Erica Carroll (Flushing, N.Y.; Townsend) and Denison freshman 
Tamara Carty (Saginaw, Mich.; Heritage) were the only multiple-event winners 
on the women's side. Carroll won 100 fly (58.33) and the 200 back (2:04.86), 
and broke the NCAC record in the latter. Carty took both distance freestyle 
events, winning the 500 free in 5:03.16 and the 1650 free in a North Coast 
record-time of 17:10.64. Carty was voted the Swimmer of the Year.

Kenyon's remaining individual wins came from junior Sarah Leone (Butler, 
Pa.; Shadyside) in the 100 free (52.50), and a trio of freshmen: Melissa 
Holt (South Glastonbury, Conn.; Kingswood-Oxford) in the 200 free 
(1:54.65); Claire Tindal (Acton, Mass.; Acton-Boxborough) in the 200 
individual medley (2:10.42); and Ashley Rowatt (Louisville, Ky.; Dupont) 
in the 400 IM (4:32.49). Senior diver Becky White (Bloomington, Ind.; 
Bloomington) was named Diver of the Year for the third consecutive season 
after she won the one-meter diving and placed second on the three-meter board.

Denison's other individual event champions were senior Katie O'Connor 
(Loveland, Ohio; Eden Prarie, Minn.) in the 50 free (24.53), freshman Leah 
Favret (Worthington, Ohio; Thomas Worthington), who set a North Coast standard 
as she won the 100 back (58.50), and sophomore Alyssa Heidinger (Pittsburgh, Pa.; 
Woodland Hills) in the 100 breast (1:05.99).

The remaining individual event winners were Allegheny sophomore Melani DiPietro 
(Latrobe, Pa.; Greater Latrobe) in the 200 fly (2:08.57) and senior Kyle Kopnitsky 
(Erie, Pa.; McDowell) in three-meter diving (452.55), and Wooster sophomore Beth 
Starling (Wooster, Ohio; Wooster) in the 200 breast (2:23.16).
