North Coast softball squads continue with non-conference play in the coming week. The conference schedule begins on April 7.

DENISON took two of three games at the NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic. The Big Red defeated Methodist,14-2, in the opening round, then fell to Transylvania, 9-1, and bounced back to take third place with a 3-1 victory over Ithaca in nine innings. Senior catcher Brie Berkopec (Mars, PA/Mars Senior) was named to the all-tournament team after hitting .529 (9-for-17) with a home run, double, two RBIs and two runs scored. She also posted a .765 slugging percentage and a .619 on-base percentage.

KENYON kicked off its season with a pair of losses in the Sun West Tournament being held in Orange, California. The losses came at the hands of Pacific, 6-0, and Doane, 8-6. Freshman third baseman Jamie Samuel (Malibu, CA/Malibu) was a combined 3-for-6 with a run and RBI.

OBERLIN opened its season 0-4 at the March Mayhem Tournament at Centre College. The Yeowomen fell to Maryville, 13-5, DePauw,11-3, and Centre, 11-3 and 12-5. Senior Julia Chauvin (Hillsborough, NC/Orange) started the season off with a bang as she drilled a two-run shot on her first at-bat of the season.

OHIO WESLEYAN went 6-2 on its spring break trip to Florida. The Battling Bishops took victories over New Jersey City, 12-1, Rockford, 9-1, Carroll, 10-0, Illinois College, 15-3, Elms, 2-0, and Fredonia State, 7-3. Freshman pitcher Amanda Barker (Granville, OH/Granville) pitched a complete game in her first collegiate start allowing three hits and striking out five. Senior third baseman Rita Cook (Sidney, OH/Fairlawn) tied a school record for hits in a game with four when she went 4-for-4 and drove in five runs against Illinois College.

WITTENBERG went 1-3 in a rain-shortened spring break trip to the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida. The lone victory was over Adrian by a final score of 7-4. The Tigers had four games canceled due to rain and field conditions. Senior Cameron Catalfu (Loveland, OH/Loveland) went 6-for-12 with a home run.

WOOSTER posted a 6-4 record on its spring break trip to Fort Myers, Florida. The Fighting Scots tallied wins against Carroll, 3-0, Drew, 4-1, Rockford, 9-0, Polytechnic, 11-2, Wisconsin-Platteville, 6-4, and New Paltz State, 8-3. Freshman Kelley Johnson (Orrville, OH/Orrville) hit .448 (13-for 29) with seven runs scored, three doubles, one home run and seven RBIs. Freshman pitcher Gina Pirolozzi (Canton/Canton McKinley) went 3-1 in five appearances with a pair of shutouts and a no-hitter.

ALLEGHENY had its season-opening weekend at the Sea Gull Invitational washed out and the games will not be rescheduled. HIRAM was idle last week but returns to action this week with games against Thiel and Geneva.
