__________________________________________________________________________ April 28, 2008 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Hiram junior shortstop Stephanie Zunic (Canfield, OH/Canfield) hit 11-for-24 (.458) with four doubles, a triple, a home run, eight RBI and six runs scored last week as the Terriers went 4-0 in North Coast play. The wins gave Hiram its second straight berth in the upcoming NCAC Tournament. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Denison senior pitcher Bri Scrofano (Longs, SC/McDowell) made two starts last week. She was 2-0 and allowed two runs in 14.0 innings with 13 strikeouts while allowing six hits. Scrofano moved into second place on DU’s career strikeouts and shutouts lists. She is 12-4 with a 1.59 ERA this season. __________________________________________________________________________ April 21, 2008 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Ohio Wesleyan freshman outfielder Tara Van Vranken (North Canton, OH/ Massillon Jackson) broke a school record with three doubles in a 15-8 victory over Wittenberg, and also smashed her first career home run in the doubleheader sweep. For the week, VanVranken hit 9-for-19 (.474) with homer, five doubles, six RBI and seven runs scored as the Battling Bishops went 5-1, 3-1 in NCAC action. OWU also topped Wittenberg, 9-0. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Senior Stephanie Hemmingson (Beaverton, OR/Woodrow Wilson) of Kenyon started two games on the mound and won both. She threw just over 12 innings, gave up two earned runs on eight hits, did not walk a batter and struck out five as the Ladies defeated Oberlin, 9-1, and Denison, 9-0. __________________________________________________________________________ April 14, 2008 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Denison sophomore Alex Murray (Mayfield Hts., OH/NDCL) accounted for three of the Big Red's six home runs in a two-game sweep of Wooster, including a grand slam in the nightcap. She drove in seven runs as Denison topped the Fighting Scots, 5-4 and 10-6. Denison went 4-2 on the week, sweeping Case, 7-2 and 8-6, and falling to Ohio Wesleyan, 2-1 and 5-4. Murray was 9-for-18 on the week with four homers, two doubles, eight runs scored and nine RBI. Her slugging percentage was 1.278 and she raised her season average 36 points to .393. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Ohio Wesleyan sophomore left-hander Rachel Seibel (Johnstown, OH/Johnstown- Monroe) won both ends of a twinbill over Denison. In the opener, she picked up the complete-game victory, striking out nine and walking two in eight innings. She came on in relief in the nightcap and gave up two hits, struck out four and walked none in 5.0 innings of work. The wins were OWU's first one-run wins of the season and also the first extra-inning wins of the season. Seibel then went the distance in a 5-2 loss to Allegheny. She was 2-1 on the week with a 1.84 ERA. She allowed 14 hits in 19.0 innings, striking out 16 and walking two. Ohio Wesleyan also fell to Allegheny, 12-4. __________________________________________________________________________ April 7, 2008 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Allegheny junior Rachel Ryan (West Salem, OH/Northwestern) led the Gators to a 4-0 record in NCAC play and a 5-1 overall record last week. She was 7-for-17 (.412) with a pair of homers, a double, a triple, two walks and 11 RBI as Allegheny swept Oberlin, 11-2 (5) and 18-2 (5) and Kenyon, 2-0 and 6-4. The Gators split with Case, falling 10-2 (6) and winning 7-3. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Ohio Wesleyan sophomore left-hander Rachel Seibel (Johnstown, OH/ Johnstown-Monroe) fired a one-hitter against Oberlin to lead OWU to an 8-0 victory. She struck out the first and last five batters she faced and fanned 14 in total, just one off the school record she established against Salem St. earlier this spring. She opened her week with a five-hit victory against Kenyon, striking out four and walking two. The Battling Bishops won that game, 6-1, after falling to the Ladies, 3-2 in the opener. Ohio Wesleyan also picked up a 10-0 victory over Oberlin. __________________________________________________________________________ March 31, 2008 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Denison senior second baseman Claire Kopko (Washington, PA/Trinity) went 7-for-11 (.636) with a double, a home run, five RBI and five runs scored to lead the Big Red to a 3-1 week. She also walked four times to reach base in 11 of her 15 plate appearances (.733). Kopko, who is already the program's all-time RBI leader, is 19 hits from becoming DU's all-time leader in that category as well. The Big Red swept Heidelberg, 9-0 and 5-3, defeated Olivet, 10-9 (9) and lost to Alma, 6-1. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Wittenberg junior Rachael Hatcher (West Carrolton, OH/West Carrollton) threw a complete-game, 5-3 victory over Transylvania with seven strikeouts, and also smashed a two-run homerun. She pitched another complete-game victory, 4-1 over Case. Hatcher posted another seven strikeouts in that contest. For the week, she pitched 14.0 innings, allowed 13 hits, 2 runs (both earned), walked three and struck out 14. Wittenberg went 8-0 last week to improve to 14-6 overall. __________________________________________________________________________ March 24, 2008 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Wittenberg senior shortstop Sarah Fetters (Woodhaven, MI/Maumee, OH) smashed her first career grand slam in the third inning of an 8-2 victory over Baldwin-Wallace in the Tigers' home-opener. For the week, Fetters went 2-for-5 (.400) with a run scored, four RBI, two walks and five assists. The Tigers dropped the nightcap, 11-2. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Denison senior pitcher Bri Scrofano (Longs, SC/McDowell) earned a complete game victory in a 5-3 defeat of Marietta to improve to 4-0 on the year. She struck out one batter and allowed three runs in the victory. In 27 innings this season, she has allowed three runs and has struck out 22. __________________________________________________________________________ March 17, 2008 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Kenyon freshman Brittany Vanegas (Alameda, CA/Redwood Christian) led all Ladies on their spring trip to Tucson, Arizona, with a .500 batting average (16-for-32) and scored a team-high nine times. She also racked up three doubles and four RBI. Vanegas was a threat from both sides of the plate as she also started five games on the mound and went 2-3 with a 3.67 earned run average. In 31 innings of work, she struck out 19 and walked five. Kenyon compiled a 4-6 record on their spring trip. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Wooster sophomore righthander Andrea Kelley (Westerville, OH/Westerville South) went 3-1 during five starts on the Fighting Scots' spring trip in Ft. Myers, while accumulating a 1.97 ERA and 28 strikeouts over 32.0 innings. Highlighting the spring break trip thus far, she tossed a four- hit, 1-0 shutout versus St. Lawrence. Wooster has compiled a 7-3 record in Florida. __________________________________________________________________________
