__________________________________________________________________________ APRIL 29, 2002 RAINEY AND THORNTON NAMED NCAC SOFTBALL PLAYER AND PITCHER OF THE WEEK PLAYER OF THE WEEK Kenyon senior first baseman Kris Rainey (Cleveland Hts., OH/Beaumont) went 6-13 (.462) in four games last week, with two doubles and a home run. Her four game totals include four runs scored and four runs batted in. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Ohio Wesleyan junior Emily Thornton (Columbus, OH/Watterson) went 2-1 in three appearances for the Bishops last week. She tossed a two-hit shutout against Oberlin to start the week and followed with a three-hit complete game win over Allegheny in the first game of a doubleheader. In the second game, she went the distance, an OWU-record 11.2 innings, before Ohio Wesleyan fell to the Gators in the bottom of the 12th. For the week, she totalled 23.2 innings of work and five runs (two earned). She allowed 13 hits, walked four batters and fanned 20 more. __________________________________________________________________________ APRIL 22, 2002 HORST AND GAYDOS NAMED NCAC SOFTBALL PLAYER AND PITCHER OF THE WEEK PLAYER OF THE WEEK Wooster senior outfielder Kerri Horst (West Salem, OH/Northwestern) went 4-for-10 (.400) in five games last week. She scored four runs, and recorded three runs batted in, two steals, two sacrifice bunts and a home run. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Allegheny sophomore righthander Tracie Gaydos (Sarver, PA/Freeport) posted a 2-0 record with a 0.00 ERA in four appearances last week. She pitched two complete-game shutouts in as many starts. For the week she allowed nine hits in 22.2 innings and four runs, all unearned; she struck out 11 batters. __________________________________________________________________________ APRIL 15, 2002 DAHER AND THORNTON NAMED NCAC SOFTBALL PLAYER AND PITCHER OF THE WEEK PLAYER OF THE WEEK Oberlin freshman catcher Julia Daher (Grosse Pointe, MI/Grosse Pointe) led the Yeowomen to two wins over Lake Erie last week, their second and third victories of the season. She was 4-for-5 (.800) with eight runs batted in, six runs scored and two doubles. She was walked three times and recorded 12 putouts and two assists. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Ohio Wesleyan junior Emily Thornton (Columbus, OH/Watterson) hurled a complete-game, 10-inning one-hitter against Wittenberg. She nursed a no-hitter into the sixth inning before allowing a hit - ending an OWU record streak of 13 hitless innings. The Bishops won the game 7-1, scoring a record seven runs in the 10th inning. For the week, Thornton totalled 11.1 innings of work and allowed one hit and one unearned run. She walked five hitters and struck out seven. __________________________________________________________________________ APRIL 8, 2002 HANSON AND ZOLLARS NAMED NCAC SOFTBALL PLAYER AND PITCHER OF THE WEEK PLAYER OF THE WEEK Hiram freshman catcher Jamie Hanson (Leslie, MI/Leslie) batted .611 (11-for-18) in six games last week, leading the Terriers to a 3-3 week. In two wins over Oberlin, Hanson was a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs, three RBI and a double. Hiram also picked up one win over Ohio Wesleyan in the second game of a doubleheader. For the week, Hanson totalled eight runs, four RBI, five doubles, a triple and three stolen bases. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Denison senior pitcher/first baseman Courtney Zollars (Westerville, OH/Westerville South) helped the Big Red to two of their four wins last week. Against Cedarville, Zollars worked seven innings, allowing three hits and walking one. She struck out nine batters. In nine innings against Wooster, she set a Denison record for strikeouts with 20, fanning the first nine batters and 16 of the first 17. She allowed one hit in the game - the only runner allowed on base. Zollars lowered her season ERA by more than one run after the two games this week (2.28). __________________________________________________________________________ APRIL 1, 2002 ROBBINS AND HERNANDEZ NAMED NCAC SOFTBALL PLAYER AND PITCHER OF THE WEEK PLAYER OF THE WEEK Denison senior outfielder Kelly Robbins (Franklin, OH/Franklin) was 4-for-5 in two games for the Big Red last week. She tallied two RBI and scored one run. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Kenyon freshman pitcher/third baseman Sarah Hernandez (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA/Trabuco Hills) helped the Ladies to a 4-3 win over Ohio Dominican last week in the first game of a twinbill. In seven innings of work, she allowed three earned runs and seven hits, while fanning eight batters. Hernandez improved to 3-3 on the season. __________________________________________________________________________ March 25, 2002 HENDERSON AND BARONE NAMED NCAC SOFTBALL PLAYER AND PITCHER OF THE WEEK PLAYER OF THE WEEK Denison second baseman Tami Henderson (Bolton, Ontario/Robert F. Hall) went 4-for-7 (.571) with four runs batted in two Big Red wins last week. She also scored a run, and added a double, a stolen base and a walk. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Wooster sophomore Angie Barone (Akron, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) went 2-1 and recorded a save in four appearances last week. She pitched 21 innings, allowing just six runs (one earned) on 14 hits and 15 walks, while striking out 20. The highlight of the week was a shutout against Virginia Intermont, when she gave up one hit and struck out eight batters in a complete game. __________________________________________________________________________
