__________________________________________________________________________ May 2, 2005 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Kenyon senior Dana Halicki (North Royalton, OH/Padua Fransiscan) went a combined 8-for-17 (.471). Four of her hits were doubles and two were home runs. She scored six times and had seven RBI. For the week, her slugging percentage was 1.059 PITCHER OF THE WEEK Ohio Wesleyan sophomore Claire Martin (Jefferson, OH/Jefferson) pitched a two-hit shutout to hand OWU a 1-0 win over Otterbein. She also pitched complete-game win in both ends of a doubleheader against Allegheny, including a five-hit shutout in the nightcap of the twinbill. At Hiram, she pitched a two-hitter in the opener of the Bishop sweep that clinched the conference title. For the week, she was 4-0 with a 0.58 ERA. She had two shutouts, allowed two earned runs, struck out 11 and walked three in 24 innings of work. __________________________________________________________________________ April 25, 2005 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Hiram sophomore Lisa Steadman (Ashtabula, OH/Edgewood) helped the Terriers sweep Oberlin last week. She went 3-for-5 (.600) in the Oberlin series, with two runs scored and two RBI. For the week, she went 4-10 (.400). Steadman leads the Terriers in on-base percentage (.398) and in runs scored (16) and is second in batting average (.296), total bases (24) and doubles (3). PITCHER OF THE WEEK Allegheny junior right-hander Giannina Coccaro (Miami, FL/Palmetto) led the Big Red to a 4-0 win in the second game against Wooster, hurling her third shutout of the season. She was 3-0 for the week, giving up 10 hits, four runs (two earned), and six walks while striking out 20 in 23 innings of work. She pitched Allegheny to both wins against the Fighting Scots, allowing eight hits for the day, walking five batters and striking out 10. __________________________________________________________________________ April 18, 2005 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Wooster sophomore first baseman Maria Gonzalez (Millersburg, OH/West Holmes) went 6-for-14 (.429) from the plate with four runs and eight RBI, as Scots improved to 8-0 in the NCAC. Most of her damage came in the second Wittenberg game, as she belted the second grand slam in school history to give the Scots a 4-1 lead in the third inning. After the Tigers retook the lead at 5-4, Gonzalez tied it up with a two-out RBI single in the fifth and added another run-scoring single in the sixth. Her two-out double in the third inning of the first Hiram game gave the Scots a 2-1 lead. Gonzalez has already set school single-season records for home runs (four) and RBI (26). PITCHER OF THE WEEK Sophomore righthander Claire Martin (Jefferson, OH/Jefferson) threw her first collegiate no-hitter in an 8-0 win over Kenyon. She struck out two and didn't allow a walk in 6.0 innings of work. At Oberlin, she allowed one hit in 3.0 innings to pick up her second win of the week. She struck out four, with no walks. In 9.0 innings pitched last week, Martin allowed one hit, no runs and no walks with six strikeouts. __________________________________________________________________________ April 11, 2005 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Allegheny freshman second baseman Abby Bodenlos (Pittsburgh, PA/Shady Side Academy) went 11-for-20 (.550) on the week with five runs scored, nine RBI, three homers. She added two stolen bases, two doubles and a triple. She had two homers against Hiram, one in each game of the twinbill. She had the gamewinning hit in an 11-8 win over Wittenberg with a bases-loaded triple and finished the week with a 4-for-4 performance against Case with a homer, three runs scored, two stolen bases and two RBI. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Wooster junior Natalie Barone (Akron, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) pitched all 28 innings for the Scots, highlighted by her first career no-hitter in the opener against Oberlin as well as back-to-back extra-innings wins at Ohio Wesleyan. In the first game of the week, two Oberlin batters reached during the first inning, but then she retired 16 straight, including seven strikeouts, before the game was called in the bottom of the sixth. Overall, Barone gave up five runs (four earned) on 23 hits and four walks while striking out 19 in the four games. __________________________________________________________________________ April 4, 2005 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Ohio Wesleyan junior third baseman Amy Mazur (Elyria, OH/Elyria) slammed a solo homer to give Ohio Wesleyan a 1-0 lead in the opener of a doubleheader at Ohio Northern. She was 1-for-1 in the game and tied the Bishop record with three walks. In the nightcap, she was 3-for-4 with a triple, which set an OWU record for hits. For the week, Mazur was 4-for-5 and reached base in seven of eight appearances. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Denison sophomore hurler Rachel Thomas (Gahanna, OH/Lincoln) lowered her ERA to 1.59 with two victories over Wilmington and Defiance. In 14 innings of work, she scattered eight hits and allowed five runs (two earned), walking five batters and fanning nine. Opponents are hitting just .214 off Thomas and she has struck out 41 batters in 52.2 innings pitched. __________________________________________________________________________ March 28, 2005 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Kenyon senior Alison Diegel (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) went 2-for-3 (.667) against Concordia. She had an RBI and scored the winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning PITCHER OF THE WEEK Wittenberg freshman Taryn Hensel (Marion, OH/Ridgedale) went the distance for her first collegiate win in a 8-2 decision over Wilmington. She allowed one earned run on three hits and no walks in seven innings pitched. Hensel had a perfect game going into the bottome of the fifth. __________________________________________________________________________ March 21, 2005 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Wooster freshman shortstop Molly Gaffney (Tallmadge, OH/Archbishop Hoban) was 5-for-15 from the plate with four runs scored last week. She also reached base via three walks and stole four bases in as many attempts. PITCHER OF THE WEEK Wooster junior Natalie Barone (Akron, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) went 3-1 last week with a 1.87 ERA, highlighted by complete-game shutouts over Lasell (3-0) and Wis.-Oshkosh (2-0). Overall she totalled 30.0 innings pitched, during which she yielded 10 runs (eight earned) on 25 hits and six walks, while striking out 22. __________________________________________________________________________
