  • Kenyon's Jesse Weiss Drafted In 36th Round Of MLB Draft By The Milwaukee Brewers

    Recent Kenyon College graduate Jesse Weiss (Los Angeles, CA/Windward) was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in Saturday's 36th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft. With the selection, Weiss became the second Kenyon baseball player to be drafted in the last two years.
  • Wooster's Eddie Reese Named To ABCA/Rawlings Div. III All-America Team

    The College of Wooster junior second baseman Eddie Reese (Canfield, OH/Cardinal Mooney), the 2013 NCAC Baseball Player of the Year recipient, has been named to the 2013 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-America team as a second-team selection. In 45 games this season, Reese hit .370 (64-of-173) with 22 doubles, four triples, eight home runs, 54 RBI and 50 runs scored.
  • NCAC Baseball Duo Named To Capital One Academic All-America Team

    The 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Division III Baseball Team was announced today (May 29th) and two North Coast student-athletes were honored on the list. Allegheny senior outfielder Mike Kastelic (Johnstown, PA/Bishop McCort) {left}, a biochemistry major with a 3.93 GPA, was a second-team selection, while Oberlin junior Mike McDonald (Weston, CT/Weston) {right}, also a biochemistry and biology major with a 3.90 GPA, was named to the third team. To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.90 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

    The North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) was well represented when D3baseball.com released its second annual All-Region teams today as seven student-athletes were named to one of the three All-Midwest Region teams.

    The baseball season in the North Coast officially came to a close last week in the 2013 NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament. Wooster (33-12) dropped its first contest of the Midwest Regional, 20-4, to Thomas More, held in Terre Haute, Indiana at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s Art Nehf Field.

    Wooster junior second baseman Eddie Reese (Canfield, OH/Cardinal Mooney) and Wooster senior left-handed pitcher Keenan White (Dublin, OH/Dublin Coffman) have been named the Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, to highlight the 2013 All-North Coast Athletic Conference baseball selections.

    The College of Wooster (15-3, 32-10) captured its 15th all-time North Coast Athletic Conference baseball championship with an 18-6 victory over Allegheny (11-7, 26-16) in game six of the 2013 NCAC Baseball Tournament on Friday, May 10, at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio. The Fighting Scots broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning with eight runs on five hits and then added six more in the seventh and two more in the eighth to seal the 12-run victory over the Gators. With the victory, the Scots were crowned the 2013 NCAC baseball champions and earned the league’s automatic big into the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament.
  • Wooster Captures 15th NCAC Baseball Championship

    The College of Wooster captured its 15th NCAC Baseball title all-time on Friday afternoon with an 18-6 victory over Allegheny in the championship game of the 2013 NCAC Baseball Tournament. With the victory, the Fighting Scots have earned the league's automatic bid into the 2013 NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament.

    Following NCAC cross-divisional series last weekend, the field is set for the 2013 NCAC Baseball Tournament, which will be played at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio, this weekend, May 9-10. Please note, due to graduation conflicts on Saturday and Sunday, the tournament schedule has been adjusted to utilize the entire day Thursday and Friday.

    The North Coast regular season will conclude this weekend with cross-over series between teams from the East and West divisions. The winners of the top-four series will advance to the 2013 NCAC Baseball Tournament, while the fifth series will be played for position in the final standings. The NCAC Baseball Tournament will be played at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio, May 9-11. The final matchups for the cross-over series will be announced on Wednesday evening following the completion of divisional play.

Following this weekend’s divisional series, matchups will be released next Monday for the following weekend’s cross-divisional series, which will determine the four teams that will compete in the 2013 NCAC Baseball Tournament.

There are four NCAC divisional baseball series are on the schedule this weekend, April 20-21.

    Allegheny sophomore pitcher Steven Ramsdell has been named to the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week, announced Tuesday. Ramsdell recorded a 0.00 ERA over two games, pitching 13.0 innings of shutout work while striking out eight. Ramsdell recorded a six-inning no-hitter in an 11-0 win over Hamilton on Mar. 22 after shutting out Plattsburgh State, 1-0, on Mar. 18.

    Conference play is scheduled to begin in the North Coast this weekend with four divisional series’ on the slate: DePauw (0-0, 5-4) hosting Denison (0-0, 4-6), Oberlin (0-0, 6-2) traveling to Hiram (0-0, 9-6), Kenyon (0-0, 11-3) entertaining Wooster (0-0, 7-5) and Wittenberg (0-0, 8-1) visiting Wabash (0-0, 6-7). NCAC divisional series’ consist of four games over two days with one seven-inning game and one-nine inning game being played on both days. With the recent string of inclement weather throughout the region, be sure to check the NCAC website for scheduling updates throughout the week.

    The North Coast baseball season continued last weekend with numerous league squads participating in spring break tournaments in Florida. Last week’s results were highlighted by a pair of NCAC teams defeating Wheaton (MA), which entered the week ranked third in the nation on the D3baseball.com Top 25. Denison defeated the Lyons, 12-4, on March 14th, and Wooster knocked off Wheaton, 3-0, on March 17th.
