    Allegheny College Director of Athletics Portia Hoeg has announced the hiring of Brandon Crum as the Gators' head baseball coach.

    Wooster sophomore shortstop Michael Wielansky (St. Louis, MO/Ladue Horton Watkins) earned a prestigious American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Gold Glove Award, the coaches association announced on Wednesday, June 21st.
  • Lackner & Wielansky Named All-Americans

    Wooster senior first baseman Jamie Lackner (Westlake, OH/Westlake) and sophomore shortstop Michael Wielansky (St. Louis, MO/Ladue Horton Watkins) earned first-team All-America certificates from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), the organization announced on Thursday evening during the opening ceremonies of the NCAA Div. III College World Series. Earlier on Thursday, Lackner also earned a second-team All-America certificate from D3baseball.com.

    Wooster sophomore shortstop Michael Wielansky (St. Louis, MO/Ladue Horton Watkins) was named the Position Player of the Year in the Mideast Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Wooster senior first baseman Jamie Lackner (Westlake, OH/Westlake) was a first-team selection by both the ABCA and D3baseball.com to highlight the list of North Coast baseball players that garnered All-Region honors for the 2017 season.
  • Tigers & Scots End Year At Mideast Regional

    The 2017 NCAC Baseball season came to a close over the weekend as both DePauw (33-13) and Wooster (36-10) were eliminated from the eight-team double-elimination NCAA Division III Mideast Regional, played at Ross Memorial Park on the campus of Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania.

    Wooster (35-8) cruised through the bracket at the 2017 NCAC Baseball Championship Tournament and captured its league-leading 17th conference championship with a 25-6 victory over DePauw (31-11) in the championship game on Saturday afternoon at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio. As league champions, the Fighting Scots have earned the NCAC’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament for the second year in a row and the 29th time in history.

    The Wooster senior tandem of first baseman Jamie Lackner (Westlake, OH/Westlake) and left-handed pitcher Michael Houdek (Cleveland Hts., OH/Cleveland Hts.) have been named the Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, to highlight the 2017 All-North Coast Athletic Conference Baseball Team.

    Following the NCAC Crossover series last weekend, the field is set for the 2017 NCAC Baseball Tournament, which will be played at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio, this weekend, May 11-14. Please note, due to a graduation conflict, if Denison advances to the championship round, Game Six and Game Seven (if necessary) will be played on Sunday.

    Three North Coast Athletic baseball players were voted first-team Academic All-District® by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced on May 4th.
  • NCAC Weekly Release (5-1-17) - Baseball

    Due to inclement weather in the region over the weekend, the NCAC Baseball crossover series are not quite set as several divisional makeup games are on the slate this week on Monday and Tuesday. Once those games are completed the matchups for the crossover series will be announced on Tuesday evening. In 2017, the NCAC crossover games will simply count as three additional league games for each team. Once the weekend is completed, the top two teams from each division (based on winning percentage) will qualify for the 2017 NCAC Baseball Championships, set for May 11-14 at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio.

    We are starting to see some separation at the top of the NCAC Baseball standings with Wooster owning a 10-2 record in the East and DePauw holding a 9-3 mark at the top of the West standings. There are several key matchups on the league slate this weekend, highlighted by second-place battle in the East as Oberlin (7-5) will be hosting Allegheny (6-6) for a four-game set in Ohio.

    Following the first three weekends of league play in NCAC Baseball, Wooster has built a lead in the East over Allegheny, while DePauw holds a one-game lead over Denison in the West after the Tigers took three of four from the Big Red last weekend in Indiana. League play continues this weekend with four total series on the slate, led by Oberlin hosting Kenyon in the East and Wittenberg traveling to Denison in the West.

    Despite an early April snowstorm on Friday, the NCAC was able to complete all four of its baseball series last weekend, highlighted by Kenyon sweeping Hiram in the East and DePauw taking three of four against Wittenberg in the West. There are four midweek non-conference games on the schedule this week, while league play picks back up on the weekend, led by DePauw hosting Denison in the West and Wooster traveling to Kenyon in the East.

    The spring break portion of the 2017 North Coast baseball schedule will come to a close this week with DePauw playing five games in central Florida. While the midweek portion of the schedule includes several non-conference games, the NCAC Divisional slate opens this weekend with four total series, led by Denison hosting Wabash in the West and Oberlin traveling to Wooster in the East.

    The 2017 NCAC baseball season is now in full swing as several league teams were in action last week on spring break trips in southern states, highlighted by Hiram posting a 7-3 mark at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Florida. NCAC teams are slated to compete every day this week, with numerous games taking place in Arizona and Florida.

    While some North Coast baseball teams have opened the season with rare northern games in late February and early March, a majority of the league teams will be kicking off their schedules over the next three weeks on spring break trips in either Arizona or Florida.

    The 2017 NCAC Baseball season kicked off last weekend with three of the 10 league teams in action, highlighted by DePauw (3-0, 0-0) posting a perfect 3-0 record in Millington, Tennessee. While Denison and Ohio Wesleyan will open their spring season’s in Ohio next week, Hiram, Kenyon and Wabash are all slated to open the season on spring break trips. Hiram and Kenyon will be competing in Florida, while Wabash is making the trip out west to Arizona for its training trip.
