2017 Division III Baseball All-Region Teams All-Mideast Region Team

ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Teams

Wooster sophomore shortstop Michael Wielansky (St. Louis, MO/Ladue Horton Watkins) was named the Position Player of the Year in the Mideast Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Wooster senior first baseman Jamie Lackner (Westlake, OH/Westlake) was a first-team selection by both the ABCA and to highlight the list of North Coast baseball players that garnered All-Region honors for the 2017 season.

While Lackner was the only first-team honoree on the All-Mideast Region team, four NCAC players were named to the second team, including Wielansky, Wooster junior outfielder Jake Fling (Norton, OH/Norton), DePauw senior outfielder Jack Thompson (Carmel, IN/Carmel) and DePauw senior utility man Mike Hammel (Indianapolis, IN/Cathedral). In addition, the Wooster starting pitching duo of senior left-hander Michael Houdek (Cleveland Hts., OH/Cleveland Hts.) and junior right-hander Nanak Saran (Hudson, OH/Hudson) received third-team All-Mideast Region laurels from 

Finally, Wooster head coach Tim Pettorini, Div. III's active leader with 1,173 wins (1,173-436-6) was named the Mideast Region Coach of the Year for the sixth time in his career after leading the Scots to a 36-10 record and their NCAC-best 17th conference championship.

Wielansky and Lackner were the only two NCAC players to land on the ABCA All-Mideast Region first team, while a trio of players earned second-team laurels, including Oberlin sophomore catcher Brendan Mapes (Mount Vernon, OH/Centerburg) and the DPU senior duo of Thompson and Hammel.

NCAC players occupied six of the 15 slots on the ABCA All-Mideast Region third team, including Fling, Denison junior outfielder Tanner Johnson (Jefferson, WI/Jefferson), Oberlin senior outfielder Brian Carney (Winchester, MA/Winchester), Saran, Houdek and Wabash senior right-hander Michael Herrmann (Coatesville, IN/North Putnam).

ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first-team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans will be announced on the evening of Thursday, May 25. The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Team will be announced on Wednesday, June 21.
