  • Wielansky Tabbed as ABCA Div. III Player of the Year

    Michael Wielansky of The College of Wooster turned in an absolutely phenomenal season on the diamond for the Mideast Regional champion Fighting Scots, and the American Baseball Coaches Association took note and selected the junior shortstop as its Div. III Position Player of the Year, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
  • Denison Leads NCAC In Final Learfield Standings

    Following the completion of the 2017-18 NCAA Division III competition season, four North Coast Athletic Conference schools ranked in the top-70 of the Learfield Directors' Cup standings, led by Denison finishing 44th out of 323 eligible institutions with 382.00 total points. Schools must have competed in an NCAA Championship event during the academic year in order to compile points in the standings.

    The College of Wooster’s historic run to the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships came to an end on Saturday afternoon with a 10-5 loss against Swarthmore at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wisconsin.
  • Four Named To All-American Squads

    Led by Wooster junior shortstop Michael Wielansky (St. Louis, MO/Ladue Horton Watkins) being named a consensus first-team All-American by both the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and D3baseball.com, four total North Coast baseball players collected All-American honors for the 2018 season.

    Wooster junoor shortstop Michael Wielansky (St. Louis, MO/Ladue Horton Watkins) was named the Position Player of the Year in the Mideast Region by both the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and D3baseball.com, while four additional NCAC players were also first-team selections on both teams to highlight the list of league baseball players that garnered All-Region honors for the 2018 season.
  • Wooster Captures Sixth Regional Championship

    Wooster manufactured the go-ahead run on the bases in the bottom of the sixth inning, and the Fighting Scots captured their sixth regional championship with a 4-2 win over North Coast Athletic Conference rival Wabash College on Monday at Adrian College's Nicolay Field. With the win, the Fighting Scots punched a ticket to this week's eight-team NCAA Div. III Baseball Championships at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wis. with action slated to start on Friday.
  • Denison Wins Record 16th NCAC All-Sports Title

    Denison won two outright league titles in men's swimming & diving and women's lacrosse, shared the league title with Kenyon in field hockey and posted 14 additional top-five finishes during the 2017-18 academic year to win its league-leading 16th North Coast Athletic Conference All-Sports Championship.

    The Denison senior tandem of centerfielder Tanner Johnson (Jefferson, WI/Jefferson) and right-handed pitcher Perley Provost (South Bend, IN/Culver Academy) have been named the Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, to highlight the 2018 All-North Coast Athletic Conference Baseball Team following balloting by the league coaches.
  • 3 NCAC Teams Earn NCAA Bids

    While Wabash earned the league’s AQ into the national tournament, history was also made early Monday (5/14) morning as the league learned that it would have three teams competing in the Div. III tournament for the first time since 1999 with Denison (32-10) and Wooster each earning one of the 16 available at-large selections into the 58-team field. This is now the third year in a row that the NCAC will have multiple teams competing for the Div. III national title.
  • Wabash Wins 2nd NCAC Baseball Tourney Title

    After winning its league-leading 18th North Coast baseball title with a 16-2 record in conference play this season, Wooster (16-2, 34-6) has earned the top seed in the 2018 NCAC Baseball Tournament, which will be played this weekend, May 10-13, at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio. Please note, if Wabash advances to the championship round (games 6 and 7), the Sunday rain date cannot be used due to Wabash College's commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 13th.
  • Blatchford & Wielansky Named Academic All-District

    Two North Coast Athletic baseball players were voted first-team Google Cloud Division III Academic All-District® by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced on May 10th. Wooster junior shortstop Michael Wielansky (St. Louis, MO/Ladue Horton Watkins) and Ohio Wesleyan senior outfielder Michael Blatchford (Shaker Hts., OH/Shaker Hts.) were both first-team selections on the All-District VII Team and will now advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot.

    With one week left in the 2018 NCAC baseball season, nationally-ranked Wooster has clinched one of the four spots in the NCAC Tournament with a 13-1 mark against league foes. The final three spots as well as the seeds for those positions will be decided this week with four doubleheaders each on Wednesday and Saturday and one final twinbill on Sunday. The 2018 NCAC Baseball Tournament is slated for the weekend of May 10-13 at the VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio.

    Nationally-ranked Wooster has built a two-game lead in the NCAC baseball standings with a perfect 12-0 mark in league play, while Denison is second at 10-2, Wabash is third (8-4) and the duo of Allegheny and Ohio Wesleyan are tied for fourth at 6-6 each. League play continues this week with six total doubleheaders on the slate, led by Denison hosting Wooster on Saturday in Granville.

    As we near the halfway point of league play in NCAC baseball, nationally-ranked Wooster tops the standings at 8-0 overall, and Denison sits in second at 7-1, while the middle of the standings appears up for grabs with just two games separating third-place Wabash (5-3) from seventh-place Wittenberg (3-5). There are 10 total conference doubleheaders on the slate this week, led by Kenyon (4-3) hosting Denison on Tuesday and Allegheny (4-4) traveling to Wooster on Saturday.

    Wooster sophomore Dan Harwood (Brecksville, OH/Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) was a force to be reckoned with at the plate last week for the Scots, as his slash line of .667/.750/1.467 led to the designated hitter being named to D3baseball.com's Team of the Week for the third time this spring, as announced by the website on April 10th. Senior Drew Tornow (Painesville, OH/Riverside) joined Harwood on the team after a week in which he slashed .600/.667/1.267.

    With the first full week of NCAC baseball in the books, nationally-ranked Wooster tops the league standings with a perfect 6-0 mark, while Denison and Wabash share second at 3-1 each, and Allegheny and Ohio Wesleyan are deadlocked fourth with identical 3-3 records. There are seven total NCAC doubleheaders on the slate this week, starting with a makeup series between Wittenberg and Wabash on Tuesday in Indiana, and culminating with a battle for first on Saturday as Wabash hosts the Fighting Scots for a 12:00 p.m. start.

    North Coast baseball teams kicked off the new round-robin schedule format last week with eight of the 10 teams in action, highlighted by Ohio Wesleyan and nationally-ranked Wooster both opening the league slate with doubleheader sweeps. There are conference DH scheduled for both Wednesday and Saturday this week, led by Wabash hosting Wittenberg on Wednesday and Wooster traveling to Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday.

    Wooster sophomore designated hitter Dan Harwood (Brecksville, OH/Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week for games played between March 19-25 after helping lead the Scots to a 4-1 record on their final week of spring break action in Florida last week.

    With the bulk of the NCAC baseball teams having wrapped up the spring break portions of their seasons, the focus now shifts to the conference slate as the league’s new round robin schedule format kicks off this Saturday with five doubleheaders on the schedule, led by a rematch of last year’s NCAC Tournament title game as Wooster will host DePauw for a pair of nine-inning games in Ohio.

    It was another action-packed week of spring break baseball in the NCAC with several of the league teams in competition in Arizona and across central Florida, highlighted by Kenyon closing out its two-week trip in the sunshine state with a 5-2 record last week. While several teams will continue non-conference action over the next two weeks, the first conference doubleheaders of the season are scheduled for Saturday, March 31st.

    The 2018 NCAC baseball campaign kicked off last weekend with five of the league’s 10 teams in action, led by Wabash posting a 2-1 record at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana, with wins over Transylvania and Wis.-Oshkosh. There are 18 total non-league games on the slate this week, highlighted by Denison opening its season in Virginia and DePauw kicking off its spring season in Louisville, Kentucky.
