After collecting NCAC Player of the Week honors on Monday, DePauw junior linebacker Will Longthorne (Toledo, OH/Ottawa Hills) and Wittenberg senior wide receiver Corey Stump (Lima, OH/Central Catholic) were both named to the D3football.com Team of the Week on Tuesday (9/22).
Longthorne provided the defensive spark in the Tigers’ 49-20 home win against Wooster. He finished second on the team in tackles in the game with 10, but 4.0 of those stops went down as a tackle-for-loss, which included 1.0 sack. He also contributed a forced fumble and one pass breakup in the 29-point victory for the Tigers. Longthorne and the Tigers will be back in action this Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. tilt at Hiram.
Stump had a career day in the Tigers’ 42-21 home victory over Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday. He tied the school record for receptions in a game with 14 and finished second on the all-time single game list in both receiving yards (234) and touchdowns (4). His 84-yard scoring strike from senior quarterback Zack Jenkins (Frostproof, FL/Frostproof) was also the longest reception of his career. Stump and the 15th-ranked Tigers will face their toughest test of the young season this Saturday in Indiana as they are set to square off against ninth-ranked Wabash at 1:00 p.m.
