Coming off a historic year, DePauw (1-1, 0-0) opened up its 2013 campaign by splitting a pair of tough contests, including knocking off the 13th-ranked team in the country Lynchburg, 2-1. Looking ahead this week, Denison (0-0, 0-0) travels to Ohio Wesleyan (0-1, 0-0) today (9/3) to usher in the 2013 portion of the North Coast schedule.

DENISON opens up its 2013 field hockey campaign Tuesday afternoon on the road with a conference tilt versus Ohio Wesleyan at 4:30.

11th-ranked DEPAUW defeated 13th-ranked Lynchburg 2-1 in the season opener for both teams. Jamie Stoner’s (Chicago, IL/Loyola Academy) first collegiate goal with 2:37 left in the first overtime lifted the Tigers past Lynchburg. Chelsea Cutler (Victoria, B.C./Mt. Douglas Secondary) opened the scoring for DePauw in the second half to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The Tigers fell in their next contest against Centre 2-1. Although they outshot the Colonels, 29-6, DePauw only managed to put one through on Grace Fisher’s (St. Louis, MO/St. Joseph’s Academy) goal with 7:39 left in the contest. DePauw’s 19-game regular season win streak came to a close against Centre.

Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Brownell (Ocnomowoc, WI/University Lake School) made a big impact in her first weekend as a collegiate keeper, stopping 21 shots and allowing just four goals in 105 minutes in the cage.
