  • DPU's Gina Wills Steps Down As Head Coach

    Gina Wills has announced that she will step down from her position as head field hockey coach at DePauw to assume the head field hockey coaching position at Washington and Lee University.

    Kenyon field hockey head coach Jacque DeMarco was named the Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) on December 10th.

    20th-ranked Kenyon (19-3) saw its historic 2014 season come to a close on Wednesday afternoon following a 2-0 loss against 19th-ranked Messiah (15-6) in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Tournament.

    North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey tournament champion Kenyon (19-2) has earned a berth into the 24-team NCAA Division III Tournament after earning the league’s automatic qualifying bid. The Ladies last made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2007 and are making their third overall appearance in the Championship.

    Kenyon (19-2) claimed its third NCAC Field Hockey Tournament title with 1-0 victory over Denison (13-5) in the Championship match on Saturday, November 8 in Gambier, Ohio. With the win the Ladies earn the NCAC's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament.

    Kenyon (17-2, 13-1) locked down its first North Coast Athletic Conference regular-season crown since the 2007 season and second overall. Wittenberg leads the league with 10 titles all-time, followed by Denison (9), Ohio Wesleyan and Wooster (8), DePauw (3) and Oberlin and Kenyon (2).

    The North Coast will be represented by seven student-athletes at the 2014 Victory Sports Tours/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Senior Game, which will be played Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, on Saturday, November 22, at 4:00 p.m.

    Kenyon (16-1-0, 12-1-0), DePauw (14-4-0, 12-1-0), Denison (11-6-0, 9-4-0) and Wittenberg (9-9-0, 7-6-0) have all earned spots in the 2014 NCAC Field Hockey Tournament heading into the final week of the regular season. League action continues this week with one conference game scheduled on Thursday and three on Saturday. The complete tournament bracket will be available following the conclusion of Saturday’s contests.

    Kenyon (14-2-0, 10-1-0) and DePauw (13-2-0, 9-2-0) have each punched a ticket into the North Coast Tournament heading into the final two weeks of the regular season. While the Ladies picked up their lone win last week over Wittenberg (8-8-0, 6-5-0), the Tigers earned NCAC victories over Oberlin (2-10-0, 2-9-0) and Wooster (8-8-0, 5-6-0).

    Kenyon (13-2, 9-1) defeated DePauw (11-2, 7-2) for the second time this year on Saturday in thrilling fashion, 4-3, in penalty strokes. The Ladies have now won 13 games in back-to-back seasons for third time in program history and first time since the 1996-97 seasons.

    Kenyon (10-2, 7-1) bounced back from its first conference loss of the season to collect a pair of NCAC victories last week and become the first squad to reach seven league wins. A full slate of NCAC contests continue this week, highlighted by DePauw (10-1, 6-1) hosting Kenyon and Denison (6-3, 6-1) next weekend.

    Denison (5-3, 5-1) handed Kenyon (8-2, 5-1) its first conference loss of the season on Saturday to run its winning streak to four. The win pulls the Big Red into a tie for first along with Kenyon and DePauw (9-1, 5-1) with matching 5-1 conference records.

    20th-ranked DePauw improved to a perfect 4-0 on the year after picking up wins over Centre and fourth-ranked Christopher Newport last weekend. The North Coast entertains a full slate of conference matches this week with all eight teams playing at least one conference contest. League action gets started on Wednesday as Ohio Wesleyan (2-1, 0-0) travels to Wooster (0-2, 0-0) in the conference opener for both teams.

    Kenyon opened up the 2014 season with a perfect 2-0 record for the first time since 2005, picking up victories over Centre and Sewanee. Three-time defending conference champion, the DePauw Tigers, also go off to a strong start, posting a 2-0 record with wins over Hendrix and Rhodes. Non-conference action continues this weekend with five of the eight teams in action.
