Kenyon (14-2-0, 10-1-0) and DePauw (13-2-0, 9-2-0) have each punched a ticket into the North Coast Tournament heading into the final two weeks of the regular season. While the Ladies picked up their lone win last week over Wittenberg (8-8-0, 6-5-0), the Tigers earned NCAC victories over Oberlin (2-10-0, 2-9-0) and Wooster (8-8-0, 5-6-0).
DENISON dropped to third place in the NCAC standings following a 1-0 overtime loss to Ohio Wesleyan on Thursday. DU rebounded with a 2-1 non-conference win over Hendrix on Saturday. Abby Martone (St. Louis, MO/John Burroughs School) scored one goal and had one assist against Hendrix.
17th-ranked DEPAUW has now won three-straight contests and nine of its last 10 after a pair of NCAC wins last week over Oberlin and Wooster. Senior forward Maggie Campbell (Winnetka, IL/New Trier) paced the Tigers on the week with nine points, including three goals.
EARLHAM dropped a pair of conference contests last week, falling to Wooster on Saturday and Oberlin on Sunday. Megan Hut (Tiel, Netherlands/RSG Lingcollege) scored the Quaker’s lone goal in the loss to Oberlin on Sunday.
KENYON played just one game last week, but racked up a convincing 5-2 conference win over Wittenberg. Five different players, including Rachel Hall (Los Angeles, CA/Harvard-Westlake), scored for the Ladies. Hall’s goal gave her the Kenyon career record for both goals scored (42) and points (101).
OBERLIN split a pair of NCAC match ups with No. 17 DePauw and Earlham last week. The Yeowomen fell to DePauw, 9-1, on Saturday afternoon before dropping the Quakers, 3-1, on Sunday. Four different Yeowomen scored in the split over the weekend. Leading scorer Maureen Coffey (Manassas, VA/Stonewall Jackson), Rachel Zuckerman (Timonium, MD/Dulaney), Hannah Christiansen (Williamstown, MA/Emma Willard) and Sophia Weinstein (Manhattan, NY/South Hadley (MA)) tallied goals for Oberlin. Sophomore keeper Maggie Gossiaux (Metuchen, NJ/Metuchen) moved her season total to 239 saves. Entering the week, Gossiaux led NCAA Division-III with 20.3 saves per game.
OHIO WESLEYAN extended its winning streak to three games last week with wins over Denison and non-conference foe Hendrix. In the, 1-0, overtime win versus Denison, Haley Savoie (Poway, CA/Del Norte) scored the game-winner to lift Ohio Wesleyan to a 4-7 record in conference action.
WITTENBERG picked up a victory over Transylvania on the road, 5-4, before dropping a 5-2 contest against Kenyon at home last week. Against the Pioneers, the Tigers, led by three scores and one assist by Paige Vanerstrom (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny), held off a furious rally to pick up the win.
During a three-game homestand last week, WOOSTER defeated Bethany, 4-2, and Earlham, 4-0, and also played No. 17 DePauw close in a 3-1 setback. Taylor Thorp (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) produced an eight-point week (3 goals, 2 assists) while scoring in every game. In the victory over Bethany, she scored the game’s first and last goals, and in NCAC action, she put together a one-goal, one-assist effort against Earlham, followed by an assist against DePauw as her blast on cage was deflected in by a teammate.
