GILBERT, Ariz. – Denison field hockey head coach P.J. Soteriades and assistant coach Kellie Jasinski were recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) on Thursday afternoon as the Coaching Staff of the Year in the Great Lakes Region.

The Big Red staff enjoyed a remarkable 2018 campaign where they went 18-3 overall and were undefeated in North Coast Athletic Conference play (14-0) for the third time in program history.

Outscoring their opponents 51-14 on the season and holding the opposition to less than five shots in 12 total contests, Soteriades and Jasinski guided the Big Red to their second-straight NCAC Tournament Championship crown while also advancing to the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1999-00. The memorable season earned Soteriades her second-straight NCAC Coach of the Year award and the fifth of her career.

In addition to the on-field success, the Big Red landed five All-NCAC selections, including sophomore Michelle Kabaira as the Defensive Player of the Year and senior Lucy Pearsall as the conference's Midfielder of the Year. Both went on to be named to the All-Great Lakes Region first-team and were then honored as Longstreth/NFHCA All-Americans for the second time in each of their careers. Kabaira was also named the Great Lakes Regional Player of the Year in 2018, the first player in program history to be chosen for the award.

Over the last two seasons under Soteriades and Jasinski, the Big Red has compiled an overall record of 35-7 while going 26-2 in NCAC play. They also hold a 26-game conference winning streak dating back to Sept. 15, 2017. In 18 seasons as the head coach of the Big Red, Soteriades holds an overall record of 187-143.
