Two days ago, Kenyon men's senior golfer Ryan Muthiora (Zion Crossroads, VA/Tandem Friends School) was selected to compete as an individual for the NCAA Division III Championship. On Wednesday, freshman Lawrence Courtney (Kingston upon Thames, England/Hampton School) was added to the championship field after another player was unavailable to participate.
Competition will begin on May 15 at Grandover Resort at Greensboro, North Carolina.
Muthiora and Courtney are two of the six individuals participating in a field of 216 student-athletes and 40 teams.
Muthiora, the North Coast Athletic Conference's Player of the Year, will enter having played 22 rounds of golf and leading the team with a 72.77 scoring average. The Zion Crossroads, Virginia native earned two tournament wins this year along with eight top-five finishes and nine top-ten marks.
Courtney was right behind his senior teammate. He posted a 74.65 scoring average, notched five top-three finishes, seven top-ten finishes, and was named an All-NCAC Honorable Mention selection.
Both student-athletes were also named recently as semifinalists for the NCAA Division III Jack Nicklaus Player of the Year award.
