Wittenberg Women & OWU Men Take Lead After Day 1

MANSFIELD, OH -- The first 18 holes of the 2019 North Coast Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships were completed Saturday afternoon at Westbrook Country Club in Mansfield, Ohio. Ohio Wesleyan is leading the men after carding a 291, while Wittenberg currently sits atop the women’s leaderboard with a cumulative score of 328.

Allegheny shot a 295 on day one to sit just four strokes behind OWU in the men’s standings, while the Kenyon Lords carded a 301 to sit in third, followed closely by Wittenberg in fourth with a 302. Wooster (309), Denison (316), DePauw (319) and Wabash (324) round out the eight-team field. In the women’s standings, DePauw is just one stroke back of the leaders with a 329, while Denison is three strokes behind the second-place Tigers with a 332. Wooster sits in fourth (349), followed by Ohio Wesleyan (358) and Allegheny (365).

Allegheny’s Tyler Pham (Pembroke Pines, FL/The Sagemont School) is leading the men after shooting a three-under 69 on the first round of play. Pham recorded five birdies while making par 11 times in the first round. Ohio Wesleyan’s Justin Skinner (Dublin, OH/Jerome) and Kenyon’s Robert Williams (Gambier, OH/Mount Vernon) are tied for second after each carding a 71. Skinner tallied six birdies, while Williams recorded an eagle and made par 14 times. Allegheny’s Matthew Del Rosso (Pittsburgh, PA/Central Catholic), Ohio Wesleyan’s Jack Funderburg (Westerville, OH/Central) and Wittenberg’s Cameron Willis (Eaton, OH/Eaton) are all tied for fourth after each carding an even 72.

DePauw’s Larisa Luloff (Cary, IL/Cary-Grove) and Wittenberg’s Madison Wolters (Centerville, Ohio / Centerville) led all scorers after both shooting a five-over-par round of 77. Luloff and Wolters each carded two birdies and par nine times to seize the individual championship lead after the first round of play. Denison’s Emmy Timberlake (Charlottesville, VA/Charlottesville) sits just one stroke behind the leaders with a 78 after one birdie and making par 11 times, while Big Red teammate Megan Wong Megan Wong (Columbus, OH/Columbus School for Girls) is just one stroke behind after carding one birdie and shot par 10 times for a 79 on the day. Three golfers are tied in fifth as DePauw’s Rachele Miller (Princeton, IA/Pleasant Valley) and Wittenberg’s Erin Adams (Shaker Heights, OH/Beaumont High School) and Devon Atchison (Pataskala, OH/Watkins Memorial) all carded an 80 in the round.

The final round of the NCAC Golf Championships will get underway on Sunday with the men teeing off at 9:00 a.m. and the women going off at 9:27 a.m. The 2019 NCAC Golf Champions will receives the conference's automatic bid into the 2019 NCAA Division III Golf Championships.
