Indoor T&F Heptathlon & Pentathlon Completed

The 2019 NCAC Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Combined Championships were held on Saturday, Feb. 23, and Sunday, Feb. 24, at Kenyon College. Wooster senior Carolyn Webster (Fredericktown, Ohio/Fredericktown) won the pentathlon with 3,229 points, while Ohio Wesleyan junior Jayson Blankenship (Medina, Ohio/Medina) won the heptathlon with 4,450 total points.

Webster claimed her second NCAC pentathlon victory (2017) after placing first in the 60 meter hurdles (9.70), the high jump (1.55m; 5’ 1”) and the long jump (5.44m; 17’ 10.25”), while also recording third-place finishes in both the shot put (9.91m; 32’ 6.25”) and the 800 meter run (2:39.77). Blankership earned the heptathlon win after taking first in the pole vault (4.45m; 14’ 7.25”), placing fourth in the 60 meter dash (7.49), the shot put (10.07m; 33’ 0.5”), the high jump (1.73m; 5’ 8”) and the 1,000 meter run (2:56.00), claiming sixth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.19) and recording an eighth-place finish in the long jump (5.69; 18’ 8”).

Other top finishes in the pentathlon events went to Oberlin junior Jasmine Keegan (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia H.S.), who had the best throw in the shot put (11.97m; 39’ 3.25”) and junior teammate Christine Impara (Ashland, Ore./Ashland), who outpaced the field in the 800 meter run (2:28.63).

In the heptathlon, Denison junior James Dixie (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) earned the best distance in the long jump (6.42m; 21' 0.75"), while the best high jump of the day was earned by Wabash freshman Max Bigler (Grapevine, Texas/Grapevine) (1.94m; 6' 4.25") and Wooster senior Simon Weyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle) recorded the fastest time in the 1,000 meter run (2:43.87). The Oberlin Yeomen captured three event victories, as sophomore Cameron MacIntyre (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) finished first in the 60 meter hurdles (8.75), sophomore Adriano Atallah (New Rochelle, NY/Regis) collected the best time in the 60 meter dash (7.09) and the best heave in the shot put was claimed by freshman Knox Perry (Franklin, Tenn./Brentwood Academy) (11.45m; 37' 6.75").

The 2019 NCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held Friday-Saturday, March 1-2, at the Gault Recreation Center in Wooster, Ohio. Total team points from these combined events will be factored into next weekend's results toward the final team standings. After the pentathlon, Wooster has earned 15 points, followed by Wittenberg (11), Oberlin (8), Ohio Wesleyan (4) and Kenyon (1). Following the completion of the heptathlon, Oberlin currently has 11 points, while Ohio Wesleyan has 10, Wabash has seven, Denison has six and Wooster has five.
