The NCAC landed four men's basketball players on the 2017 D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region Team, highlighted by Ohio Wesleyan junior Nate Axelrod (Dublin, OH/Coffman) making his third-straight appearance on the team.
Axelrod, who was also named the NCAC Offensive Player of the Year earlier this month, was named to the first team for the second year in a row after also being named the top player in the Great Lakes region last season. In 2015, he was named to the third team as well as being the region's Rookie of the Year selection.
Denison senior post Jett Speelman (Granville, OH/Newark Catholic) was named to the third team for the second year in a row, while Wittenberg senior guard Shane Edwards (Perrysburg, OH/Perrysburg) and Wooster senior post Dan Fanelly (Uniontown, OH/Green) both made their debut on the All-Great Lakes Region squad as third-team honorees.
Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools, who were contacted multiple times as the season wound down to remind them to make their players eligible. There were 723 players nominated nationwide. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region.
