Denison sophomore attacker Liam Rooney (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) was named the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's Offensive Player of the Week for Division III lacrosse on Wednesday, April 22.
Rooney, who was also named the North Coast Athletic Conference player of the week, led Denison to league wins over Kenyon, Wabash and Wooster. In those three contests, Rooney scored nine goals while adding five assists.
Rooney validated his national player of the week status on Wednesday night when he posted a career-high eight points in the NCAC semifinal win over Wittenberg. Rooney scored five goals and added three assists and three ground balls while taking eight shots. Four of his five goals came in the first half, allowing Denison to jump out to a 12-1 lead on the Tigers.
