Denison (3-1), DePauw (2-1) and Hiram (2-1) have all jumped out to solid starts to the 2017 season early on during non-conference action. North Coast men’s lacrosse squads dive into the league portion of the 2017 schedule this week with four games scheduled on Saturday. 

DENISONranked 19th in the most recent USILA poll, took care of Montclaire State, 13-4, to begin their Spring Break trip. Denison jumped out to a 9-1 halftime lead and never looked back towards its third win of the season. Spencer Butler (Essex Falls, NJ/Millbrook School) notched a hat trick and senior Liam Rooney (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) tallied two goals and three assists.

DEPAUW was idle last week.

HIRAM defeated Mount Saint Joseph in the Terriers’ lone game of the week last Saturday, 10-8. Freshman attacker Hunter Jenkins (Solon, OH/Solon) led the way with three goals and two assists for five total points. Jenkins also collected three ground balls and caused one turnover.

KENYON played two games this past week, losing at home to Aurora, 18-15, and then falling to Franklin & Marshall, 20-10, during a neutral-site game in Brooklandville, Maryland. Junior Pierce Kraft (Rydal, PA/William Penn Charter) led the Lords with eight combined points on three goals and five assists in those two games.

OBERLIN trailed by as many as four goals late in the first half, but rallied to defeat Mount Union, 11-9, out-scoring the Purple Raiders 6-2 in the second half. Junior Reese Koburov (Woodridge, IL/Benet Academy) led the Yeomen charge with a career-best four goals.

OHIO WESLEYANranked 20th in the most recent USILA poll, dropped its lone contest last week, falling to Stevenson, 16-12. Sophomore attacker Conor Caffrey (Scituate, MA/Brewster (NH) Academy) and sophomore attacker Max Tennant (Englewood, CO/Cherry Creek) scored three goals apiece for Ohio Wesleyan, and senior attacker Matt Maier (Summit, NJ/Summit) finished with a goal and three assists.

WABASH split a pair of games last week, falling to Wentworth on Tuesday, before bouncing back to knock-off Calvin, 13-7, on Saturday. In the win, Collin Brennan (Carmel, IN/Carmel) led the way for the Little Giants with three goals and two assists.

WITTENBERG split a pair of non-conference contests last week, falling to Roanoke, before defeating Berry, 15-12, on Wednesday. Freshman midfielder Zach Shy (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) led the way for the Tigers in the win with four goals and one assist.

WOOSTER split a pair of one-goal decisions last week taking a 12-11 thriller at Capital on Wednesday, before dropping a 15-14 heartbreaker to Alfred on Saturday. In the Capital contest, first-year Wesleyan Wagner (Royersford, PA/Cardinal Gibbons) made eight saves over the final 7:39 with the Scots holding on to a one-goal lead. Senior Matt Parmelee (South Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury) and junior Sam Kuhn (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) each scored six goals on the week.
