Six of the nine NCAC men’s lacrosse teams that were in action last week combined for a 3-4 record against non-conference foes, led by 4th-ranked Denison (0-0, 1-0) knocking off 20th-ranked Washington & Lee, 12-10 on Sunday.
DENISON, ranked fourth in the USILA preseason poll, opened the season with a 12-10 win over No. 20 Washington and Lee. Jake Waxter (Baltimore, MD/Gilman) scored four goals and one assist. Denison will travel to No. 16 Stevenson next Sunday.
DEPAUW dropped its home and season opener to Rhodes, 19-9. The Tigers nearly erased an early five-goal deficit to trail 8-7 at halftime. The Lynx scored eight straight including six in the third period to gain control. Will Roberts (Carmel, IN/Brebeuf) and Steen Jorgensen (Kenilworth, IL/New Trier) each scored three in the loss.
HIRAM will open its 2018 season this Saturday, February 25th with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Chatham.
KENYON went on the road and defeated Washington & Jefferson 18-1 in its season opener. Kenyon improved to 11-0 in series history against the Presidents in the process. Josh Galardi (San Francisco, CA/ University) scored five goals and added four assists to lead the Lords. His nine combined points were Galardi’s second-highest single-game total in his career.
OBERLIN will open its 2018 season this Saturday, February 25th with a 2:00 p.m. contest at Adrian.
OHIO WESLEYAN dropped its opening contest to third-ranked Rochester Inst., 12-7, last Saturday. Junior attacker Max Tennant (Englewood, CO/Cherry Creek) led the Bishops with three goals and two assists, while senior midfielder Luke Leyden (Northfield, MA/Northfield Mt. Hermon) finished with two goals and an assist. Senior Ben Rigger (Decatur, GA/Decatur) recorded 17 saves in the Ohio Wesleyan crease.
WABASH opened its fourth season of varsity lacrosse Saturday against Trine. The Little Giants scored the first goal of the game before eventually losing 16-6. Collin Brennan (Carmel, IN/Carmel) and Dajon Thomas (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) each scored twice for the Little Giants. Steven Stark (Indianapolis, IN/Cathedral) handed out three assists.
WITTENBERG dropped its lone contest last week, falling to Elmhurst, 13-11.
WOOSTER will open its 2018 season this Sunday, February 26th with a 6:00 p.m. contest versus Albion.
