  • Denison Wins 13th NCAC All-Sports Title; Big Red Claimed 19 Top-Five Finishes in 2012-13

    Denison University posted top-five finishes in 19 of 23 sports to earn the North Coast Athletic Conference All-Sports Championship for the 12th time in school history. The Big Red opened the year with top-five finishes in five of the seven fall sports, and kept the momentum rolling into the winter season with five more top-five finishes, including league titles in men's swimming & diving and women's swimming & diving. DU capped off the year with a strong showing in the spring season, finishing in the top-five in nine of the 10 sports, including the outright NCAC title in men's lacrosse. The Big Red secured the 2013 All-Sports title by compiling 165.0 total points, edging out 2012 All-Sports champion DePauw (159.5) by five-and-a-half points.

  • Hiram College Names Dan Zemanski Head Men's Soccer Coach

    Hiram College officials today appointed Daniel J. Zemanski to the position of head men's soccer coach. Zemanski has served as the first assistant with the program for the past eight years and has assisted Head Coach Carl Capellas to develop one of the most competitive NCAA Div. III soccer programs in the Midwest. Capellas recently resigned to join the soccer staff at the University of Akron.

Greenhill, who earned D3soccer.com third-team honors, was named the NCAC Offensive Player of the Year with 19 points on five goals and nine assists.

    Hiram senior forward and North Coast Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year Ryan Greenhill (Solon, OH/Solon) was named to the 2012 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tires NCAA Div. III All-America Team. Greenhill, who earned NSCAA second-team honors, was named the NCAC Offensive Player of the Year with 19 points on five goals and nine assists.

    Hiram senior Ryan Greenhill (Solon, OH/Solon), a Management & Accounting major with a 3.98 GPA, and Denison junior Andrea Karl (Powell, OH/Olentangy Liberty), a Biochemistry major with a 4.00 GPA, highlighted the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Soccer Teams selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as first-team selections.

    DePauw competed in its 10th overtime contest of the season and, for the first time in 2012, finished on the short end in an extra session after a 2-1 loss to Dominican in the second round of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship.

    DePauw freshman Alieu Musa (Greenwood, IN/Center Grove) could barely wait for the Tigers' NCAA Tournament first round matchup with Calvin to begin. A mere 31 seconds after the whistle blew to kick off the game, Musa found the back of the net to give the Tigers a lead over Calvin that they would not relinquish. Freshman Adrian Ables (Midwest City, OK/Midwest City) and sophomore Andy Morrison (Bristol, IN/Northridge) also chipped in goals to give DePauw a 3-0 win over the 2012 national runner-up Knights. DePauw advances to play host Dominican at 1:30 p.m. (CST) on Saturday.
  • Ohio Wesleyan Falls 2-1 in Overtime of Opening Round of NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament

    Senior back Kit North (Powell, OH/Bishop Watterson) scored to give Ohio Wesleyan a 1-0 halftime lead, but Centre came back to tie the game and got the game-winner in the second overtime period to defeat the Bishops in a first-round matchup of the NCAA Division III tournament on Friday in Wheaton, IL.

    Second-seeded DePauw (13-1-5) needed regulation, two overtime periods and the penalty kick session to earn its second straight NCAC Tournament championship Saturday evening in Delaware, Ohio. The DPU Tigers knocked off top-seeded Ohio Wesleyan (13-2-5) 4-2 in the penalty kick session which was a rematch of last years tournament championship.

    Ohio Wesleyan (7-1-1, 13-2-3) earned its fifth-straight North Coast championship with a pair of wins last week. The Battling Bishops defeated Kenyon, 2-0, and Denison, 2-1, to collect their league-leading 21st conference title. Kenyon has won the second most conference crowns with six, followed by Wooster (3), Denison (2) and Wittenberg (1).

    Heading into the final week of NCAC regular season action, only four points separate the top six teams in the league with DePauw (5-1-2, 11-1-4) currently sitting at the top with 17. Ohio Wesleyan (5-1-1, 11-2-3) however controls its own destiny to earn the top seed going into the NCAC Tournament after handing Allegheny (5-1-1, 13-2-1) its first conference loss of the year last week.

    Allegheny (4-0-1, 12-1-1) remains the only unbeaten team in conference play and stands alone at the top of the NCAC standings with two weeks left to play in the regular season. The Gators will be tested this week as they go on the road to face Hiram (3-1-1, 12-1-1) Wednesday and then return home to host Ohio Wesleyan (3-1-1, 9-2-3) Saturday.

This week features a full slate of conference contests, including five games on Wednesday and five games on Saturday.

    After dropping out of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) division III men's poll last week, Ohio Wesleyan is back in the poll at No. 14 after knocking off No. 18 Ohio Northern, 2-0, last week. In addition, Hiram now appears in the "Also Receiving Votes" portion of the poll after opening the season with an overall record of 8-0-0 and a 1-0-0 mark in NCAC play after taking down DePauw, 3-2, in action last week.
