Denison senior third baseman Julie Rooney (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) was named to the Capital One Academic All-America VII squad as a second-team selection, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on May 27.
A four-time All-NCAC honoree and two-time first-team all-conference selection, Rooney led the NCAC in batting with a .459 average. She also led the conference in runs scored (44), hits (62) and doubles (16). On April 23 she became Denison's all-time hits leader by going 4-for-4 in a win over Capital. She leaves Denison with 203 hits, 95 runs scores, 45 doubles and 59 RBIs.
Rooney, who recently graduated with a 3.75 GPA as a Philosophy and international studies major, was also recently recognized as one of six Denison Presidential Medal winners. The Presidential Medal is the highest honor presented to a graduating senior at Denison. She is a three-time Denison Top-50 Student-Athlete honoree. At this year's celebration she was presented with the James T. Glerum Jr. Presidential Award for her performance on the field and in the classroom.
