DPU Ends Season With 5th-Place NCAA Finish

DePauw's postseason run came to an end at the hands of Linfield College, but the Tigers finished the season tied for fifth in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.

The Tigers lost by an 8-0 count in five innings and finished the season with a 36-16 mark. The Wildcats improved to 39-14 and face Tufts tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.

Linfield pitcher Montana McNealy tossed a no-hitter against the Tigers as DePauw managed just three base runners.

The Wildcats scored three in the first as Erin Tauscher drove in two with a single and McKenna Spieth plated one with a sacrifice fly. Danielle Duman's solo homer in the third made it 4-0.

Game Two (5/22)

Morgan McCord's opposite field homer to right in the bottom of the eighth was the difference as DePauw stayed alive in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship with a 5-4 elimination game win over Alma.

The Tigers improved to 36-15 and will face Linfield at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow in another elimination game after the Wildcats lost to Texas-Tyler 2-1.  Alma finished its season at 30-17.

McCord's blast, just the second of her rookie season, came as the leadoff hitter in the eighth and on an 1-2 count. It also marked the Tigers' eighth final at-bat win this season and moved their record to 4-0 in elimination games.

Game One (5/21)

Taylor Golden's solo homer in the second wasn't enough for DePauw as Salisbury scored single runs in the third and sixth innings and sent the Tigers to the elimination bracket of the NCAA Division III Softball Championship with a 2-1 victory.

DePauw dropped to 35-15 with the loss and will face the loser of the Alma-Tufts game in a 1:30 p.m. elimination game tomorrow. Salisbury, now 36-6, will face the Alma-Tufts winner at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Golden's ninth homer of the season came on a 3-2 pitch off Salisbury starter Rachel Johnson and the Tigers' 1-0 lead held until the bottom of the third. Katie Sebbane singled through the right side with two outs and moved to second on a wild pitch.  Paige Knussman's infield single plated Sebbane and knotted the score at 1-1.
