Second-seeded DePauw fell behind 3-0 in the second inning to top-seeded Trine but the Tigers broke through with four runs in the third and claimed a 7-5 win to capture the Greencastle Regional of the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.

The Tigers moved to 33-13 and advanced to the Division III Super Regional where they’ll face Moravian in a best-of-three series beginning on Friday in Greencastle, Indiana.

The Tigers opened the tournament with a 9-5 victory over Wash. U. in the opening round on Friday, and advanced to the championship round after knocking off Thomas More, 11-2, in the winners’ bracket on Saturday.

In the win over Trine, Linsey Button (Ballwin, MO/Lafayette) and Jennifer Ridge (Bloomington, IN/Bloomington North) each had two of DePauw’s nine hits, while Amy Newell had three of Trine’s 11 hits. The Thunder left 11 runners stranded in the loss, while DePauw left just five.

Kahla Nolan (West Chicago, IL/Wheaton North) improved to 18-8 with the win, while Emma Baldwin (Oak Park, IL/Oak Park River Forest) collected her sixth save.

Button was named the Most Valuable Player of the NCAA Regional Tournament, joining Tiger teammates Nolan, Ridge and Sammi Bell (Columbia, MO/Rock Bridge Senior) on the All-Tournament team. In three games, Button went 5-for-10 at the plate with eight RBI, two home runs and 12 total bases.
