  • Six NCAC Players Named To NFCA All-Central Region

    Led by first-team selections Chelsea Zang (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) and Abby Curnutte (Urbana, OH/Urbana) of Wittenberg, the NCAC had six student-athletes selected to the 2017 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Central Region Softball Team.

    The 2017 North Coast Softball season came to a close this weekend after DePauw dropped a tough, 3-2, contest to No. 15 Otterbein in an 11-inning affair in NCAA Division III Regional play at Alma College.

    Wooster junior Maddy Chase (Pleasant Prairie, WI/St. Joseph's) and Wittenberg junior Chelsea Zang (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) were named the Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, to highlight the 2017 All-North Coast Athletic Conference softball team.

    Denison junior Lauren Secaras (Wilmette, IL/New Trier) was to the Division III Academic All-District® team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on May 4th.
  • DePauw Headed to Alma for NCAA Tournament

    DePauw (23-19) captured its third North Coast Athletic Conference softball tournament championship after defeating Denison (29-16), 6-0, in game 7 of the 2017 NCAC Softball Tournament on Sunday in Springfield, Ohio. Game 7 was needed after Denison earned a 4-3 victory over DePauw in the first championship game.

    DePauw (23-19) captured its third North Coast Athletic Conference softball tournament championship after defeating Denison (29-16), 6-0, in game 7 of the 2017 NCAC Softball Tournament on Sunday in Springfield, Ohio. Game 7 was needed after Denison earned a 4-0 victory over DePauw in the first championship game.

    The 2017 NCAC Softball Tournament is set for Friday and Saturday, May 5-6, at Wittenberg University. The Tigers earned the right to host the two-day event after winning the NCAC championship for the second time in program history.

    Heading into the final week of the regular season, Wittenberg (12-0, 26-4) holds a three game lead over DePauw (9-3, 15-17) and Denison (9-3, 25-11) for the top spot in league standings. With all four tournament spots still up in the air, North Coast action continues this week with four doubleheaders scheduled for Tuesday and the league schedule concluding on Saturday with four final doubleheaders.

    Heading into the final two weeks of the regular season, Wittenberg (22-4, 8-0) and DePauw (12-14, 6-0) are the remaining teams left unbeaten in conference play and they have combined to win 19 of the last 20 contests. There are nine NCAC doubleheaders scheduled this week, highlighted by DePauw traveling to Wittenberg on Wednesday.

    Denison (5-1, 19-7) collected four conference wins last week, sweeping both Kenyon (3-3, 11-19) and Oberlin (1-5, 9-17) to improve to 5-1 in NCAC play. Wittenberg (4-0, 16-4) and DePauw (2-0, 8-14) are the two lone unbeaten teams in league play and highlight a full week of NCAC action with the Indiana Tigers traveling to Ohio Wesleyan (3-3, 8-14) on Tuesday and hosting Oberlin on Saturday, while the Ohio Tigers will host Denison on Tuesday and travel to Kenyon on Saturday.

    Wittenberg (2-0, 14-4), Kenyon (2-0, 10-16) and DePauw (2-0, 5-13) all picked up sweeps against Allegheny (0-2, 5-13), Oberlin (0-2, 8-14) and Wooster (0-2, 8-14), respectively, on the opening weekend of NCAC play. Conference play continues this week with four NCAC doubleheaders scheduled for Wednesday and three more on Saturday.

    North Coast softball squads wrapped up spring break trips last week, as eight teams open up the conference portion of their schedules this Saturday. Highlights include Wooster (6-10) traveling to DePauw (2-8) and Denison (11-5) hosting Ohio Wesleyan (4-10). Additionally, Kenyon (8-14) and Wittenberg (12-4) will hit the road to square off against Oberlin (6-10) and Allegheny (4-8), respectively.

    North Coast softball squads continued spring break trips last week, highlighted by Wittenberg getting off to an 8-2 start and Kenyon setting a record for hits in a game with 21 during a 17-10 victory against Alverno. Non-conference action continues this week with all nine teams taking to the diamond.

    The North Coast softball season is officially underway as four of the league’s nine teams have opened play and three more will open the year this week. Spring break trips continue this week as Kenyon (2-4), and Wittenberg (0-0) travel to Florida, Hiram (0-2) plays in Arizona, Denison (0-0) heads to California and DePauw (1-3) travels to Texas.

    Kenyon opened the 2017 North Coast softball season last weekend in Tennessee against Rhodes and Webster. This week, Kenyon and Hiram embark on their spring break trips as the Ladies head to Florida and the Terriers take off to Arizona for a number of games. Oberlin and DePauw kick off their campaigns this week as the Yeowomen head to Virginia and the Tigers travel to Kentucky.
